  1. To my point about Meade's Defense. The question was how Meade can improve. In my opinion a more aggressive style of defense. I understand you must have a good interior DL and speed at the OLB position to let DE rush off the edge. That being said this question is not just about Meade. Many HS programs run this style of conservative containment defense. It works especially well when you play the teams (Meade and other top public school programs typically play from year to year)(minus JH and in the past Ballard, Manual, Fern Creek, Male), they are not exactly offensive powerhouses. Meade probably could not win in the super district with this defense on a regular basis, too much speed and talent at the RB and QB positions. To be successful you should learn from those teams being successful year after year. My comment wasn’t a referendum on Coach Mattingly (He is a great coach) or Meade (A great football program), but the defensive scheme in general. Darkhorse78 is spot on; last year’s team was special and achieved something only achieved one other time. “Just my opinion Meade needed to use more blitzes, stunts, and edge rushing in that game. Meade had very few sacks as a unit last year, hopefully that will be a weakness the new DC addresses.” I still believe Meade beats Scott handily with more pressure. I don't know how many of you watch the top HS programs in the country play games on ESPN, to include Trinity & X. The High School game is trending towards the college game. Speed & quickness at the DE and LB position is the name of the game. College teams are recruiting taller, lighter, and quicker DEs to put pressure on QBs. SLB that run 4.5 in the forty. There are only 2 top nationally ranked teams in KY (Trinity & X) they both have aggressive style college defenses. True they recruit the top talent, and are the odds on favorites every year to win the 6A championship. If you want to see the future of HS football, go to a regional Rivals or Nike camp. The DEs & LBs are big, fast, and physical and get after the QB. We always complain about "why aren't KY kids getting more top D-1 offers". Two reasons, we are not developing D-1 players and we don't have enough 7on 7 clubs (By the way elite 7on7 does a great job) or off season training facilities (such as Core6 & IMG or 360). Look at volleyball, this area is a hotbed of D-1 talent. Why they develop D-1 talent through club play and invest in cutting edge athletic training (Like Edge Performance). Yes hoss403, Meade played very well against JH this past year, however I don't think JH was the same JH we are used to seeing, not to mention I’ve also seen scores of JH-55 Meade 13. Iam4thecats, defense did not carry Meade last year. Meade played great as a team, had great coaching and played great in all phases of the game (Offense, Defense & Special Teams), Meade Pride, I agree Coach Mattingly’s defense is fundamentally sound and have won Meade a lot of games. But how many of those wins were against (Male, JH, Fern Creek, Ballard, Greenwood, Henderson Co, St X or Trinity). The point is the HS game is evolving; players are more athletic, faster, bigger and stronger. Yes, the defense works in Meade’s district, but the district frankly is not that competitive. Meade needs and can win against stiffer competition. As to “Coach Mofield exceeded expectations” I do believe he coached on the 91 state runner-up team as well. Yes GOEagles! the 44 still works. You can still put pressure on the QB using the 44 defense. The point I was making was not about the 44, but really the containment style of defense.
  2. "Obviously we can not replace a Tim Mattingly. With that being said life goes on." I agree with Dark horse 78. Coach Mattingly is a very good defensive coach and a even better man. The world will not end, Meade still has some very good and experienced coaches that know football. Coach Mofield and his group will have Meade ready!!!! The jury is out weather Coach Mattingly will succeed as a Head Coach. We wish him and his family all the luck. I believe it takes a special coach to be a head coach, especially like Coach Mofield. Not everyone has the ability to lead..most have the ability to follow. The one bust on Coach Mattingly is his defensive scheme is out dated. Yes last year was very good but there were many reasons and contributors. Meade's schedule, lots of team speed, experience (Seniors that started multiple years), to include great team play. Meade also had a very good offense (Led by John Wilson, Joah and Sunshine). Not to mention Coach Scott, Coach Wilson, Coach kirk, and Coach Frank should also be given credit for the defensive success of last year. I personally believe Meade would have beat Scott Co handily if the defensive scheme was more aggressive in certain situations, just my opinion we needed to use more blitzes, stunts, and edge rushing in that game. Meade had very few sacks as a unit last year, hopefully that will be a weakness the new DC addresses. As far as Central Hardin, I dont think Coach Mattingly will make a difference in the outcome, Meade will still win!!! But they will be a better defensive unit for sure.
  3. Eastern Michigan, Northern Illinios University, Wofford College, Illinois State University, Southest Missouri State, Carson-Newman and Henderson State University join a growing list of schools that have named Tyler Addesa is a Top Prospect or extend a camp invite too.
  4. The problem for Emmitt maybe his size. Watched him at the Rivals camp. Great athlete!!!! but slower than the top LBs at the camp. He may get to big to effectively play LB at D1 and to small to plat DE or DT at the D1 level. FB might be his calling in college. Great kid!!!! Although Kirkland was named the LB MVP at the Rivals camp, based on the drills it was hard to tell the LBs apart. Most were strong, quick and physical.
  5. What hurts this player is Meade's defensive scheme. They are a contain defense, they do not rush the passer. He has natural rush skills (speed & quickness). In a scheme like St. X or Trininty he at least 15-20 sacks a year. Cincinnati started recruiting him as a Sophomore. He is playing FB this year as well 6'2 220 and factor in his bench, squat and powerclean. Pretty mean FB.
  6. He is 6"1 @ 210 now. Remember he still has 2-3 years to grow. Probably will end up 6"3 @ 225-230 great size for todays D1 OLB
  7. Thomas More, Georgetown and Mount Saint Joesph are all receruiting him as DE. He won't play D1 as a DE. DE is just where Meade needs him. Kid benches 315, squats 400 and power cleans 245. Not many LB in KY have those numbers. Eastern Michigan, Cincinnati, Southeastern Missouri and Ball State all recruiting him as a OLB or Hybrid LB but not DE. He had a better shuttle and powerball toss than Eli Brown at the Nike Sparq. At 6"1 205 he is as big as any of the top LB in the state. Should end up somewhere around 6'2 or 6'3 at 220-230 by graduation. Remember most D1 players will redshirt which will increase their size even more. Eastern Michigan thinks he can be a stud at LB.
  8. This another one I watched at the Rivals camp. He worked out with the LBs even though he is the starting DE/FB for the waves. Very physical off the line and good speed. Right now he is scheduled to work out for Ball State University, Eastern Michigan University, University of Cincinnati, Purdue and visit University of Missouri this summer.
  9. You must do more than that. D-1 schools receive hundreds of HUDL links weekly. autopart101 has the best advise. Just sending your HUDL tape and nothing else is not a good idea. Send a brief email with your HUDL link I mean brief. Telling the coach who you are, include your validated measurables and why you are different from other prospects they are considering. Just important are your grades provide them with your current GPA..ACT score and ranking. Parents must get informed to get their child recruited.
  10. You can add Morehead State to that list...Kids don't want to go to losing programs.
