  1. What numbers would be fudged? Considering the school gets their funds from the state based on the enrollment numbers they report, I doubt there is any fudging that can be done. Without some pretty large financial ramifications. It's one big conspiracy with you, Isnt' it? You aren't by chance wearing a Tin-Foil hat right now, are you? I think Hellbird is a Cooper guy. So I doubt he would care about where HHS is playing. On a serious note, is HHS currently playing up? I thought they were a 3A size school now. If not, I would imagine they are at the bottom of the 4A enrollment numbers and would not be a 4A in 4 Class system.
  2. Why would you change anything? The most important thing for the school is to Turn-Out great Christian young men. They do that like no other shcool in NKY. I am always impressed with what they do and don't believe changing anything to get a better stadium and/or football facilities is the right direction. If they break away from the disocese then I would imagine they lose more than they gain. The Bishop and Disocese has a duty to do what is best for all of the Young people they are educating, not just the athletes. I don't believe nyone could criticize their performance and management in that regard.
  3. Great write up EOT. I think your list of players to watch is indicative of what I have been saying for a while.. The Tigers are Deep. Other than QB, I don't believe there isn't a place in the "skilled postitions" where the Tigers couldn't survive multiple injuries. There are some studs for sure, but at both WR and RB postiions, they have multiple players with the ability to change a game. Although you mentioned him, I think Joe Studer is the most underated player at BW. Totally agree with your "Pound-for-Pound" statement. As you pointed out, he made some real key contributions last year. If the Tiger coaches want to beat Mayfield, then they better stop keying on a 2 or 3 individuals. There are no Max Nussbaums. Slusher will get there, but for now, there are NO players who can put the team on their back. This is the year that they can and should keep 6 or 7 fresh horses on the offensive side of the ball at all times. In Class A ball, it's hard to wear out 15 skilled players sharing equal time on Offense when you have most players playing both ways. They need to mix it up better. Unfortunately, I haven't seen that in a long time. Thye need to use all 5 or 6 backs and 6 WRs equally and throw underneath more. Using them less on offense also makes sure they are fresh for defense. I HUGE advantage in Small School Football and something that Yeagle was a master at. Since I didn't see him in the list specifically, I wanted to point out that Max Shover is a definite player to watch. A quiet contributor last year and I think it only grows this year. IMO, he is the Best Receiver. Love Slusher's potential, but I saw Shover catch balls last year that looked like he was climbing a ladder to get to. He is 2 or 3 inches shorter than most DBs and he still manages to get above them to make plays. He can flat out fly, but he doesn't need to be wide open to make play. With Fieger at QB, I am very excited about the entire WR crew. A great mixture of Speed and Hands. I'm looking forward to seeing how Hayden improves and also what Slusher adds. I also want to see the Burns brothers get the opportunity to make some plays. From the practice I saw, I believe the younger brother is the fastest kid on the team. I saw a defensive practice and the tall one (#11) was running Scout Team offense against the 1st Team D. He and Fieger connected multiple times. btw... If he's only 6' (above) then Beechwood has very few players over 6 foot. I remember thinking he was pretty tall in the playoffs last year and if they could get some height on his Vertical jump he would be hard to stop with Fieger at QB. Looking forward to the season. Hopefully I will make it to a few more regular season games than I did last year. Can't wait to watch them pull it all together.
  4. You keep saying you don't want to compare them, but you keep throwing other sports in. I asked a specific question about the First two rounds of the FOOTBALL playoffs. That's what you were commenting on, so that's what I asked you about. I know you can't keep a continuous thought going in your responses, but pleast stick the the topic we were referring to and answer MY QUESTION btw... I call the first round of Baseball and Softball postseason play Districts. Never said otherwise. You keep missing the point. He's telling you that in Football, you have a District Playoff during the regular season. Then essentially the first games of the playoffs would be considered regionals since you are already playing outside your district. GOOD LORD!
  5. It easy to say things like that when we are used to programs like Highlands, Beechwood, Cov Cath, etc... But could you imagine being the coach of Newport, Dayton, Bellevue and teh like. My guess is that if they insisted on the amount of time taht the top programs put in, they wouldn't have a team. Has to be a difficult balance between discipline and effort and maintaining some sort of a team. A coach must be part phychologist to figure out just how far he can push them or how much he can require out of them time-wise. I believe it goes along with what KYVince was saying above. Just because you have developed a machine and you have coaches and a significant number of players willing to sacrifice everything else doesn't make it the right thing for the majority.
  6. And I would agree with you if it were actually a choice. It just isn't. There are definitely parents and kids who actually can't get enough of it and I applaud that. But for many (I would argue most) if they truly had the choice they would opt for more downtime. Downtime is where the mind and body repair themselves. It's amazing the difference a little off-time makes. Families need time together. In most cases, its best if that is away from sports. There are siblings involved. Should they be forced to have their vacations revolve around the older siblings sports? Unfortunately, even if there aren't mandatory events, there is peer-pressure and pressure from coaches to attend everything. I witnessed the pressure first-hand with coaches harassing kids about playing baseball.
  7. Holy Crap! I actually agree with Hellbird 100% on something. I hope it changes before my kids are high school age. I know friends' sons are doing something for football all but 4 weeks out of the year. 2 weeks after season and 2 week dead-period. Even when they are playing other sports, they are expected to atttend any football event/practice/weight training that does not conflict. At Beechwood this year, I discovered they added at 6:30 AM receivers practice before school. Hard to say you have a conflict with Baseball at 6:30 AM. Unfortunately, I fear it will get worse before its gets better. I saw on the news that Ryle does a Midnight Madness practice. While it might be a great tradition, is there really a benefit to that? Coaches keep pushing the envelope to try and "out-work" the opponents. I wish some smart coach would try a softer approach that allows the kids to enjoy it more instead of resenting it. Yes, I said it. I believe that less time would result in greater productivity during the hours you do practice and likely more productivity and better results overall. I also belive that the excessive time has led to injuries due to the wear and tear and exhaustion. On a directly selfish side, the State need to extend the Dead Period UP into June. Always have it start the 3rd Friday in June and have it go for 3 weeks including the 4th weekend. So always 24 days. This would allow families to truly enjoy summer and be able to take some family vacations. We have had to cancel our group vacation with friends because we can no longer coordinate it with those that have Football players.
  8. Really, what would you call the first 2 rounds of play? They are a lot closer to Regionals than they are to Districts as you contend. They are actually some crappy hodge podge thrown todgether to make the 4-team system work.
  9. Now there's a mature answer. Are you a parent or a 5th Grader?
  10. Are you this obtuse on purpose or is it genetically unavoidable? Personally, I don't like any comparison to other sports, but his argument is clear. You just won't consider it because it takes away your whole premise that all sports should be the same. When it is clear that football is completely different and should be treated as such. He's demonstrating that they are actually very similar.
  11. Yes, let's have district playoffs right after we finish District Play. Your logic is laughable. You contradict yourself constantly. Its actually very funny. If I covered up your name and read some of your responses, I would have guessed you were someone different.
  12. NO you didn't find 11 that would be affected because 6 of those teams would still move on in a 2 team scenario.
  13. While I do not subscribe to your view of what Regular Season district play is, I certainly see your point and where you are coming from.
  14. So, you just voided your argument for playing as much football as possible. You just cut the number of kids getting to play "Extra Games" by 33%. I guess that wasn't that strong of an argument after all. So out of 220 Teams, you found 5 teams last year that would have been kept out of a 2 team system. In statistics we still call those exceptions. I'm ok with saying tuff nuggets, if you tie your district play, then you you leave it up to a tie-breaker or even a coin flip. My main point is, and will always be, that District Games have consequences, so you should WIN them. Perhaps if the consequences were greater we wouldn't have even the few the ties we do. A passive attitude towards district play yields mediocrity. I am selfish. The only reason I really want fewer teams is so we can get it back to Thanksgiving weekend. Being a supporter of a Class A school has always meant that we play early on Friday. As a result, we have a lot less fans that are able to make it to the Championships now that it is a week later. I just liked the tradition of it being on Thanksgiving weekend.
  15. It is moronic and I didn't say that so don't put words in my mouth. I simply said you have to WIN district play and that district games consequences. I never said that teams "TRY to split" I do think that it promotes a more carefree attitude towards district play.
  16. My answer is that they don't have the best District Record otherwise they would be the 1st place team. Non-District records don't matter and shouldn't. Otherwise you would have people scheduling a easy schedule to make their record better. Now that would make for some great football. I think if you read my posts, I agreed that the decision was made and the current system remains. Doesn't make it right, its just makes it what it is. And I'm good with it. Lot's of things are voted on and decicions are made thate are wrong. Wrong is a matter of opinion. I'm not arguing with the fact the the decision is done and we have 4 team setup for the foreseeable future. That's what iti is. My problem with you and others is the silly reasoning you give. Throwing fluke exceptions in and comparing to other sports that have Distrct Tourneys. It's apples and oranges. You have a chip on your shoulder that your Team was given 3rd place in a crappy tie-breaker. You keep using it as an example. I will keep telling you that fluke exceptions do not prove the rule or that structure is correct. Cooper may have truly been the Best team in the district last year, but the fact is they didn't show it in district play. Of course in the systems that rewards mediocrity, that get to push the reset button and try again. With regards to the kids wanting to play more. I have been watching the 4th place team roll into Beechwood for a long time. I have seen their faces and they don't often look like kids that want to be there. Don't you find it the least bit interesting that many of the teams who are generally 3rd or 4th place voted to change it? Why would that be?
  17. The difference with other sports is you aren't traveling 2-3 hours. I often wondered why the other sports were not like Football. By your logic, then why isn't it all teams? Why do we leave anyone out at all? If you want it to be like other sports, then shouldn't every team make the playoffs? It's simple, don't SPLIT. Be good enough to WIN 1st or 2nd out-right. If you are splitting games with the other 2nd,3rd or 4th place teams, then you leave it up to the chance of a tie-breaker. The regular season means something. If you understand that going in then you have something play for in the regular season. I dont' care how good your district is, if you can't at least win 2nd place out-right, you don't really deserve to be there. So leaving it up to a coin-fliip is fine with me. You put yourself in that position.
  18. How would 3rd or 4th place teams in the district be some of the best teams in the state? There are certainly fluke years where there are ties, but you can't structure the system around these fluke years. I have read through a number of threads and you always seem to want to use the exceptions to proove the rule. Yes, there are 3rd and 4th place teams who have advanced to to the Semi's or the Finals. Yes there are years where there are 3-way ties and someone may get left out with the tie-breaker. A significant majority of the time, 3rd and 4th place teams are getting blown out in the 1st round. The truth is the Regular season means something and I would argue that if you can't get 1st or 2nd place out-right in your district, then you are certainly are not one of the best teams in the state and don't deserve to be there. Your regular district games have consequences. If you want to be in the playoffs, then you better WIN them. You all think you know what the kids want and we just don't. I have seen the games at Beechwood where there are more Players and Coaches than fans for the the team. I see the kids' demeanor when the get off the bus. I don't know for sure because I'm not in their head, but I will tell you that they don't look like they want to play one more game. As I have said above. They did the survery and voted based on the results. I'm good with it. I think the poll was skewed, but the a majority of the coaches/ADs voted to leave it the same. No Judge needed, No lawsuit needs be brought through the appeals court. It stays the same.
  19. Especially considering they made it the Finals last year.
  20. Agree. I actually forgot about Randolph. Definitely had a solid year, but he's still not going to get an offer until end of the year or early next. There are a few that have the potential to play small school level, but I would be shocked if we heard of any before the pre-season workouts begin. Did anyone follow summer ball? If so, how did Randolph do? I think he plays Summer Ball for Coach Mullins on the ATY Roosters.
  21. First, let me say that I support it and I'm hoping you guys get it done in time. I was mostly teasing, but you said they just selected the contractor on 7/26 to have the pipes moved by 7/15. Can they start the Scoreboard install before the Pipes are finished being moved? I hope so. Some things tend to move quickly. All I can say to the Highlands Folks is GOOD LUCK!. It looks very nice.
  22. Clearly you have never been involved with moving utilities and sewer lines. If it hasn't been started already, 20 days would make me very nervous. They have no idea what they are opening up there. Once you do, you are subject to all the new requirements. Better hope the Campbell County Inspectors are very Highlands Friendly.
  23. Agreed, but that still means that it was 56 to 44 for keeping it the same vs changing. Majority Yes. Just not a clear one. IMO, the survery is a bit skewed. Its like throwing a legitimate third-party candidate into a Political race. It does look like the teams that are not usually 3rd or 4th place teams voted to keep it the same. I'm fine with it. They did the survey and got a good response, the board voted and it is done. I'm ready to move on.
  24. "Clear Majority"? Where do you get that? I see it as 44% want it to change. Certainly a majority, but not that definite. I guess it depends on how the numbers are worked. I would like to see how the Survery was done.
  25. What kind of Goal is it to make to be 4th place in the district? For many districts, you don't have to do anything to reach the playoffs. It didn't pass overwhelmingly, but obviously it passed so it's a done deal IMO. I would be curious how many of the 48% that voted to change are the schools that are on the losing end of these blow outs. Are most of the 52% coaches and ADs who haven't experienced these? I'm selfish. I don't care about the blowouts. I simply want to the Championship to be a week earlier on the Friday after Thanksgiving. Whether Beechwood was there or not, I would go every year if they were on a normal Day off for me.
