Shawnee takes the kickoff to their own 30. Shawnee runs on first down but they are tackled in the backfield for a loss for a loss of five yards. 2nd down they throw to the flat but it is incomplete. On 3rd and 15, another run goes nowhere. Shawnee calls their last timeout of the half.

Danville cannot get their next play off so they call their second timeout of the half. Meaux runs for 9 yards on first down. There is 10:35 to play in the quarter. On 2nd and 1, the Ads hand the ball to Meaux, who takes it to the end zone for his first touchdown of the game. Shawnee goes offsides on the extra point but Danville declines again. Extra point by Garcia is good. Danville pushes the lead out further, now up 27-0 with about 10:00ish left in the 2nd quarter

Meaux runs to the outside on the left, running down to the Shawnee 40 for another first down.

Shawnee is flagged for offsides but the Ads decline. Meaux takes the 3rd and 1 for a big gain down the field, advancing the ball to the Ads 38.

Meaux gets his first handoff of the night and a referee gets taken out in the tackle. The Ads are flagged for holding, nullifying the gain of the play. There is 1:08 to go in the first quarter. Ads get in the shotgun for a 1st & 20. Meaux takes the ball up the middle and follows his blocks to get a gain of 10 so the Ads are back to the original line of scrimmage. 2nd and 10 sees another handoff to Meaux and he pushes forward for 9 yards. That is the last play of the quarter. End of the First Quarter: Danville 20, Shawnee 0

Shawnee throws on first down but the pass is incomplete downfield. A second down run goes for three yards. On 3rd and 7 Shawnee opts to stay on the ground but they are flagged for a hold. A bad snap puts the ball on the ground. The quarterback picks up the ball and heaves it downfield but Baker intercepts the ball, giving him two for the evening. The Ads will take over from their own 29.

Shawnee gets a good return from Jimmy Ganus (senior) that takes the ball just past the 50. Shawnee runs the ball for 8 yards on first down. On 2nd down Shawnee runs it down to the Danville 26 for a first down.

Shawnee gets flagged for another false start. On 3rd and 19, they throw but Baker intercepts a bobbled pass and turns it into a pick six. Garcia's third extra point attempt misses. Danville now leads 20-0 with 3:49 to go in the first quarter

Ball is on the Shawnee 36. The Golden Eagles are flagged for a false start, though, so that moves them back five yards. A first down run goes for a yard. On 2nd and 14 the Golden Eagles go back to the air but the pass falls incomplete. Shawnee calls their second timeout of the half as they were about to take a delay of game on third and long.

Shawnee will start their third possession on their own 25. Playaction pass on first down goes for 8 yards as Shawnee keeps airing it out tonight. QB keeper manages to get across the line needed for another first down.

Cruver throws a screen pass to Knott. That gains a few yards. On 2nd down, Cruver throws a fade pass toward Gavin Baker (senior) but the ball falls incomplete. Third and goal sees the Ads repeat the play to Cam Peters (junior), who replaces Baker on the field, and that works for a touchdown. Garcia's extra point is completed. Danville extends the lead to 14-0 midway through the first quarter

Shawnee are flagged for offsides before the Ads can run another play on first down. Cruver completes a pass to Zane Knott (junior) as the Ads are sharing the ball a lot tonight. That gets the ball to the Shawnee 6.

Cruver completes a playaction pass to Jed Schweikhardt (freshman) for a yard. On 2nd down, Cruver uses his legs and runs to the outside for 11 yards, moving the chains to the Shawnee 24. Danville calls timeout.

On Shawnee's first play, they have an issue snapping the ball and that sets them back 13 yards. They call timeout to get on the same page. On 2nd down, there is an incomplete pass by the Golden Eagles. Facing 3rd and long, they throw a pass to the original line of scrimmage but that is incomplete too. Fourth down punt only goes 8 yards and the Ads will take over from the Shawnee 36.

First play for the Ads is an incomplete pass thrown by quarterback Dillon Cruver (sophomore). Jutayvion Beasley (senior) is given the ball and takes it to the outside, running for a long touchdown. That is another quick strike this season from the Admirals offense. Juan Garcia (junior), the Ads kicker, makes the extra point. Danville leads 7-0 with 10:03 to go in the first quarter

Also, this is homecoming night for Danville. Shawnee wins the toss and elects ot receive. They take the kickoff to their own 20. They start their first series of the night throwing to the left to Royce Moore (senior) for 5 yards. A second down run is stopped quickly after the handoff. Jayvian Meaux (sophomore) has been employed more on defense to try to help that side of the ball. Third down sees Shawnee throw on 3rd and 6 and it is incomplete. Shawnee punts the ball on fourth down but it does not go far, downed at the Ads 48.

Danville injury update: -Mylan Peters (sophomore), a wide receiver and kickoff return weapon, is out for the second straight week for concussion protocol.

I agree. I remember Ryan Freel, who was a great utility player for the Reds in the early 2000s, was discovered to have had CTE after he passed in 2012.

And I miss being in a district with Somerset as well. The realignment created some weird groups.

District 4 play resumes this Friday night when Shawnee (2-3) visits Danville (5-0, 1-0). The Admirals got their district play started last week, defeating Washington County (1-4, 0-1) in a delayed game on Saturday morning by the score of 41-26. The game was closer than the score indicates as Washington County found success in the first half containing a lot of Danville's explosive playmaking but the Admirals were able to reel off quick scores and then get a timely interception to put the game away. Quarterback Dillon Cruver threw for two scores, which eventually opened up the rushing attack for Jayvian Meaux in the second half. But defense continues to be a concern for the Admirals as Washington County had a lot of success punishing the Ads on the ground throughout the game. Shawnee will be playing their first district game of the year. Last week they defeated Fort Knox (1-4) 32-13. Last season the Admirals went to Shawnee and imposed a running clock in a 41-0 victory. What happens this season?

Is it oversaturated? And where? I just ask because I genuinely feel less knowledgeable about high school sports than I have in a long time. This board helps me stay clued in. Facebook, X, and YouTube help but it's the same thing when people say ESPN doesn't need to air highlights because they are on YouTube. That is true but I don't have time to watch 10+ videos that are 10+ minutes each on every game. When Sportscenter had a 5-7 minute blitz and covered a ton of games is when I felt most informed of NBA, NHL, NFL, etc. If you just care about 1 team, the media landscape gives you what you need. If you want more, though? There's just no chance you can stay informed as well as you used to.
