Yes, Game was 2-0 going into 7th and McGee was still pitching. Mustangs plated 3 to seal the deal. McCracken had 9 hits against McGee.

Mustang pitcher Josh Scheer outpitched McGee with complete game shutout, allowing 3 hits, 2 walks, and 13 strikeouts. Womack was 3 for 4, RBI and 3 stolen bases. Garner was 1 for 4 with 2 RBI double that blew game open in the 7th. Shortly after this, Mustangs defeated Trinity 3-0 with Garner pitching complete game two-hit shutout, with no walks and 12 strikeouts.

Freshman Cameron Langston has been used more at shortstop late in season , but didn't start in regional tournament. He is outstanding defensive player. Cole Womack has about 0.50 ERA for the season with 50-55 strikeouts and only 9 walks in 52 innings. Ryan Garner is around 0.75 ERA. Keegan Breese is probably the best pitcher on team and is used primarily as the closer. When Breese enters, it's lights out. Caleb Reinhardt is also very good in relief. Reinhardt has great command of his pitches and an abundance of confidence for a sophomore. Team have 16 shutouts this season including one against #2 Lafayette just over a month ago. Team is seeing the ball well right now. Top to bottom, team has been on a tear for past 3 weeks. Posted 19 hits, including 2 homeruns in regional semi-final against Marshall County. Two losses to a fine Bartlett, TN club were mainly due to errors. 4 in one game and 5 in the other. Mustangs committed 4 errors in regional semifinal against Marshall which contributed to the 7 runs allowed. Normally a solid defensive team, but when an error gets committed, it becomes infectious.

This was not an upset. McCracken won the two previous regular season games vs St Mary by 12 and 8 points, but in very competitive games until last few minutes. Not surprised with last night's result since it is tough to beat a good team 3 times in a season...and St. Mary is a good team. As noted, the Mustangs were very inconsistent this year. Coach Brower never could reign in a couple senior prima donnas who never stepped up to be team leaders. I would go as far to say no one wanted to lead on the court. Perhaps sophomore Tyce Daniel showed he could be a leader next year with a phenomenal performance on defence last night in which he practically single-handedly willed McCracken to within 2 points in final minute after being down by 9 with 6 minutes to left. Daniel still has room for improvement, but he showed more heart last night than the rest of the Mustangs combined. A disappointing season from a team that had some talent, but no cohesiveness due to lack of team discipline and leadership.

McCracken County...makeup game scheduled for today was canceled this morning.

I know who 6 or perhaps 7 (if a rumor is true) of 12 applicants are and would say there are a couple big names from out of area. This will make for an interesting selection process.

As of this past Tuesday, 12 have applied. Interview process during January and a hire announced by end of January.

I would like to know who thinks highly of Harmon. I have yet to meet anyone at the games who speaks glowingly of him. His play calling is very predictable. My wife's aunt, who doesn't know much about the game, can tell you what play is coming simply by formation. His offensive philosophy eliminates the middle of the field on pass plays. Harmon believes only bad things happen on crossing routes. When slants have been executed, those plays are very effective. Opposing coaches aren't prepared for them because Harmon calls outs and screens. I have seen too many times a pass across the middle get tipped, overthrown and nearly intercepted and Harmon will then abandon the middle of the field regardless of time remaining....first quarter or fourth. Undisciplined football is unlikely to change with Harmon at the helm. I really don't see the culture changing under his leadership. Someone from outside the system needs to be coach. Not that this is a indictment in any way of Harmon, here is a prime example of inmates running the asylum. In a JV game this season, a player took off his equipment on the sidelines, literally down to his skivvies, and went to sit up in the stands with his mother. After missing almost half of game time, he returned to sideline, re-dressed, and was sent back into the game by the JV coaches. I am curious to know how many big-time high school coaches would kowtow to the players as much as this staff has. Granted, there are exceptions, notably the freshman coach whom the kids clearly respect as do I. When the freshman coach is on the sideline during a varsity game, the kids will seek him out for encouragement and coaching. I have yet to see a player do that with any of the assistants, including Harmon when he was on the sidelines the past several years at McCracken and at Lone Oak. Hiring within the system made sense when the new school opened, but I would like to see a hire come from somewhere else.
