Read the report in the ADI this am , Looks like EC's only hit was the 2 RBI single in the 5th . They meet Rowan Co tonight for the title . District runner up Ashland ends its year at 21-11 .

Russell had been lighting it up - What happened ? Rowan isn't known for having a dominant ace .

Really Surprised that Russell couldn't dent the scoreboard VS Rowan . Russell had been swinging very hot bats .

I wouldnt be surprised for the Ashland EC score to be close . And Ashland is no where near what they have been the past 6 years .

FWIW they have not " dominated" the region . Beat Russell 3-2 after being down 2-1 in the 7th inning and went to extra innings against Boyd Co . And the 16th is a little down as compared to the last few years when Ashland had a dominant pitcher. I must say stating you have one of the best D's in the state when your pitcher strikes out 15 a game is a little quirky . That D hasn't been tested at all , maybe its just some coach speak and I dont have any problem with that at all.

Mady had a great series . several stellar D plays yesterday inc a back to the IF catch of a blooper . And a play down the RF line . And her AB's were super solid . She had a very good series.

FWIW my example was in Ohio. I just have mixed feelings , yes coaches should go to bat for their players for awards , but often it costs far more deserving players the recognition they should be getting.

Question - Should a coach over sell a player for post season awards ? I'm not talking flat out lying , but we all know HS can be , shall we say , manipulated . I've seen in over and over here in my area in area in small school softball. The same guy gets players awards that are not near the quality of other players in the 20 plus team district . He's been 20 plus years , knows the system , I'm sure he plays to his girls advantage . So is it cool that this guy " goes to bat " for his players or it is not cool ? I know he had a SOPH pitcher earn 1st team all state the year we beat her twice in conference play , at least once was by run rule . And we beat her a third time in tourney play . Our pitcher gave up less than 10 runs on the year in conference and we easily won the conference that year . We had no kid make 1st or 2nd team all state ( went to the final 8 ) .

The regional tourney is NOT set up to have the best 8 teams in any sport . IMO if you cant win your district you sure are not going to win the region the big majority of the time.

Fouts is the real deal and worthy of every bit of attention. And they are young . I'm not hating on EC , I love the attention the attention they are bringing to the 16th region. But I'm also a realist . They have very close 1 run wins ( which I said was a sign of a good tough team) over mediocre teams that would not fair well against monsters like the top three mentioned above. So chill out and don't take it so personal. I'd pick you to win the 16th , Ashland isn't the same Ashland the past 6 years , Boyd and Russell are decent but you should beat them and make it to the sweet 16 . Once there you can prove you belong . And I hope you do . But to mentioned with the Scott's , Mccraken's of the Ky world you have to be really good at all 9 positions . I wish you guys the best in advancing the good work that the Tomcats have done for fastpitch in Eastern Ky .

Unless there is some side story rather than just a decent team playing an outmanned opponent . You don't run it up past 20 plus runs . You step off early - be discreet as possible , and get out of town dreading having to play such an inferior opponent again. Because you get ZERO from it .

I coach college ball. Assisted a travel ball team that sent 6 players to D1 . Just don't go there .

It's already been explained ad nauseam why running it up is extremely poor sportsmanship and just classless ( unless there is a underlying reason) . No need to go back thru it . Just go back a page or two . Geez .

They lose 90% of the time to teams like the 3 mentioned above , even next year. They just are not complete enough IMO . But the game is played on the field , they can prove me wrong.

relating a schools stand on draw vs seed has nothing to do with this IMO.

East keeps squeaking out the W's . That's what good teams do .
