Anyone that knows anything knows that was brought on by the kid himself. Coach Harp is all class and he only dealt with the facts. Dunn said and did some things that he shouldn't have before he left and that came back to bite him. Why do you think this thing quietly went away? They had no leg to stand on!

Coach Combs did a great job at FK. He took a program that was down and in 3 years had them beating #1 seed in the playoffs. This is not an easy job, he did it well. Best of luck to him in the future!

Not all jobs are perfect. Wish coach Spencer the best of luck. Good to see good assistants get their shot.

Loyalty - Without this none of the others matter! The most important! Work Ethic - Dedication Knowledge of the Game - While important if the right assistant is under the proper head coach who is willing to help his assistants grow the assistants don't have to know all. I would also like to throw a shout out to Coach Mason, he may not have won the number of games that made everyone get excited. But behind the scenes he put alot of things in place that will lead to future success and he is nothing but class! I know that he was a big proponent of the Raines hire from the beginning.

This is a great hire! I am excited for the Mercer players and dotman hit is on the head! Stay out of his way support the program, let the coaches coach, and players play and it will lead to success.

Rains also hasn't lost a game yet. I hope there are brighter days ahead. But since the merger the atmosphere around the program has not been very positive. Other than 2006 of course.

I agree that the negativity has to be contained. However we all know how it works at Mercer. The parents will complain and the coach will be on his own. All I can say is if he wins big he will be fine. He will have no support! I do think it is a great hire for MC.

That is not the Mercer way. He doesn't have to build, it is already built. Just ask anyone around this area the classes are stocked and they are ready for district and region titles.

I don't understand why people are surprised that it is taking time. How are they to hire a coach/teacher when they do not know what teaching postions are going to be open? Also I believe there are some other domino's to fall that may have an impact on the outcome of the Mercer job and the potential candidates.

I don't believe the view of the Mercer program is viewed the same out in the state as it is locally.

Let me reiterate that I do not know this to be fact but just something that I had heard.

I heard that they have formed a committee. Also heard that they may have current players on the hiring committee. I don't know if that is indeed the case but if so that seems pretty odd to me.

I agree. The 2 things that need to happen is the administration needs to get a backbone and tell the parents that they can either support who they hire or don't support at all.

There is a segment of our fanbase that believes that our talent is on par with Boyle County. I don't know how many parents I have had tell me that there isn't a dramatic difference in talent. To answer your question Okie there is a segment of the fanbase that probably doesn't know that they will be in 4A and in the same district with Boyle, Lex Cath and Marion who has dominated them the last 2 years.

Very well put! You summed up alot of my feelings with that post. When Mercer lost Guay and Johnson they were just not talented enough to overcome the losses. Anyway I hope for our sake that they can find someone that can handle this situation. I know there are people that expect that next seasons team should win the district.

Unless I am mistaken there is no 30 day rule to hire a football coach. A football coach is a classified position which does not require the waiting period just to hire the coach.

Just a couple of things I find odd. The posting of the job is totally irrelevant, and everyone is making too big of a deal out of that. They don't even have to post the job. Did they post the basketball job? If they know who they want they could have hired them the day after Mason resigned. Now that being said if they are going outside they will need to have a teaching job to provide the person they hire that is where it gets tricky. I think we all know who the main players for this postiion are and there is a few people that are working diligently to pull it off. Also I beleive this is going to be a long process and there will probably be feathers ruffled before all is said and done.

Didn't mean to offend anyone. I wouldn't post it unless I knew what I heard. I am sure all the family is flooded with questions as to whether Coach is coming home. I was just relaying what I was told didn't think it was anything earth shattering. I think Buchanan to Mercer would be great for our program.

Premier, you make some valid points. This was my whole point from the beginning of this process. We all knew how this whole thing would be handled. That was the whole reasoning that I thought it was bad for our program to have a change at the top. Nothing anyone could have done about it the coach left on his own. I know my opinion is in the minority but I do know that they had a lot of things put in place to help build our program. Now we are going to be set back. The players will not be held accountable and I know people will say that this person or that person is running the weight room but these kids know that the person running the weightroom will not be around in the fall and there will be no consequences for not showing.

According to a Buchanan family member he has no interest in returning to Mercer. I am sure that is the answer he has to give being that he is already has a job. I still think that is a long shot, although I did hear the rumblings about a position at the Freshman academy for Buchanan but also heard there are people within the district that have time that are also wanting that position. Everyone just needs to take a deep breath this is going to be a long drawn out process that is a long way from its conclusion. I am sure there have been a few calls made just to get a feel but other than that I don't beleive anything serious is taking place. There may be some posturing being done by some of the candidates but I don't think the administration is anywhere close to conducting an interview.
