According to Kentucky.com, GRC is not listed on SK's schedule for regular season or even playing in the same tournaments that SK is playing in. However, if SK does play GRC, that will another mark in the right hand column for SK. I totally agree that GRC is a good team, they just weren't listed!! My point in the original post was that SK isn't playing good teams from "ALL OVER THE STATE", just the 3 regions listed. Good Luck to GRC! -

Wont disagree with that at all! GC hung close to the LR's, down 6 after the third....maybe that's when it seemed like TC couldn't miss. Regardless, congrats to the Lady Raiders!!! -

Is Chambers really that good? Don't know to much about him.....did he earn any recognition from last year - All District/Region/State Team? Also, who are some of the other great teams that SK will be playing from all across the state? Other than going to Ashland, SK doesn't play anyone outside of the 8/9/10th region. I'm not saying that Boone, Dixie, Conner, Cov Cath, and Holmes aren't good teams either - after watching Holmes play Scott Co, their my darkhorse for the 9th too! -

Congrats to the Lady Raiders! This team has a bunch of sharp shooters....must have shot 70% from the field and better than that at the charity line! -
Which Coaches Whine the Most?
dribbledrive11 replied to sports fan's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
I've watched coach Hicks lately and he's been rather calm with the ref's to say the least. Never heard much about how he challenges his players but, they know if you ain't in someone's jock....u be gettin some pine time!! -
Gallatin County/Simon Kenton Predictions

If ya won the state championship by 1 point, would ya still get the Trophy? A win is a win....so what's the point in commenting. I gave the edge to GC because of the head coach. -

SSC...there wasn't a nerve hit and you're just offering your opinion, which is why differences make this discussion board what it is. IMO, most parents that are involved with the GCHS program knows if their kid has talent or not. And yes, there are a few parents that will always be shallow minded when it comes to their kid! With regards to your questions; "What will he teach or is there a position open", I'm sure that the committee had to consider these same questions during the interview so there's got to be something available. Short/Long Term plans, according to a source, he isn't planning a short term stay at Grant, wanted to coach at a larger school. To address the current parent/player being better off with a short term coach, really doesn't matter if the truth be known - selected committee members should always look at the big picture! -

According to kentucky.com, while at Bath Co., Coach Hicks won the districts in 08 & 09, his best regional finish, lost in semi's to Lewis Co. in 09. -

Are you also saying that a parent can't volunteer or be appointed to a committee regardless if it's related to academics or athletics? If that be the case, the GC school system wouldn't exist. What about coaches that volunteer their time for elementary programs such as football and basketball? IMO, 90% of these coaches are parents. Just ask any of the coaches if their programs would survive without parents. I want whats best for my children and have no problem saying that...furthermore, I wouldn't want my child playing for a loser of a coach who listens to parents whispering in ears or slipping $$$ in someones pocket. "Leatherneck" couldn't have said it any better!! It all comes down to department heads picking the committee's and if they can't do their jobs, then they should be gone too! -
Should foul situations change?
dribbledrive11 replied to ladiesbballcoach's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
I too agree about not changing a thing. However, there is and was a specific team that played in the state tournament that takes advantage of having such a deep bench. Thus, this team created foul after foul and was trying to wear the other teams down. What if, 1 and 1 after 5 fouls, 2 shots after 7 fouls, and 3 shots after 10 fouls? Yes this is way out there but, it would stop some of the excessive fouling and good defense would be a must!! IMO, not a good thing but, what if. -

First of all, I've always respected Coach Kinmon and what he's done at GCHS. Everyone might believe or suspect that I'm blaming a coach, AD, or even the principal...this is so untrue! I'm tired of going back and forth with idiots on this forum - read some of my earlier post and you might understand. The program just needs to be overhauled and started from the bottom again. For those of you that can't take your blinders off, I'm not saying that GCHS should forget about the talented players that are currently in the system either. It's obvious that after 12,000 views there's interest in the program...just make sure you come out and support the next coach, it could be more exciting than you think :ylsuper: -

Seven footers and 80% shooters, let's be realistic because that isn't available anywhere in the state, unless it's at BB. Are you trying to tell me that Lawson who's 6'8" and 260, not to mention Prince, Pelfrey, and Struk wouldn't have helped out this year? 4 examples of what walks the halls every day and should have been on the basketball floor. This has nothing to do with the AD and Coaches either. We'll see within the next few days if the top brass wants a program that gets things accomplished!!!:sssh: -

dribbledrive11 replied to marvel's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
My opinion of Coach Henley is very high to say the least, it's not absurd. In simple terms, Coach Henley probably has 5 or 6 kids walking the halls that has tons of talent but, he's never had a chance to see them play. I know there's no comparison but, GC has talented kids walking the halls that should be playing basketball too! -

SSC...Care to reveal who the group is? I don't believe that there is a group or there's anyone being unrealistic with expectations. Nobody has demanded that a coach come in and win 20 plus games for three years or you're fired! I've stated before that the program has to rebuild at the lower levels and last time I counted, there's 4 elementary gyms available for that. The problem starts at the middle school and high school, which only has one gym per location. Yes, this is a huge problem and everyone knows that. With the money crunch that's going on statewide, I can't imagine another gym or complex being built for any of the athletics in GC within the next 5 years. And that's probably a wish for it to occur unless the teachers and administration want to reduce their salaries by X% to fund it. Doesn't that sound like a good idea? As for Dave Henley, he's probably had a couple of state championship teams that have just walked the halls and never set foot on a basketball floor. Most teams that he's had in the past really didn't need a coach, (this isn't a knock towards Coach either, he is a great person and one of the best to every coach the game), they just needed some guidance and fatherly advice. IMO, he's made a great career move in going to North Oldham! Grant Co has talent that is just walking the halls and if some of these kids would participate, I guarantee they'll be a regional participant every year!! Regardless of how you perceive the program, let the cheerleaders continue to RAH! RAH! and then let the administration find the right coach - although money helps, it doesn't buy accomplishments or championship :thumb: -

So, you finally agree that something does need to be done with the system! Contrary to what someone within the halls of GCHS may tell you, the students, faculty, parents, and community want a winning program!! This group of people won't settle for 2nd spot :madman:, and it's a top priority for the administration to pick the right person best suited for the job. However and regardless of who that will be, it's going to take time to rebuild. -

56 & 57 - Regional Champs - to young too know all the details. 78 & 79 - Regional Champs - lost to Lex. Lafayette in first round (Minnifield/Johnson/Rose/Wilson), which actually won the state that year. Early 2000's, lost to Oldham Co and Coach Forrest in the finals -

Can't comment about the interim coach and status. I do know that GC has produced 2 regional champs and a runner-up in the last 55 years. Having said that, I'm positive that if GC were to be a regional finalist/champ within the next decade, that would be a major accomplishment for the program. As for comparison between SC & MC, doesn't really matter because they're in a different district/region. With regards to Walton, great program and they have been successful the last few years...congrats to them! Maybe....that's why it's taking longer than it should. -

Hey PANTHER - It's apparent that you have no passion for basketball!!!! You've come in here and complained about this thread still being around and now you're saying that GC has no players coming up. Last time I checked their rosters, there's 7 juniors returning, 8 - 10 soph's, and a very talented freshmen group that won 70% of their games. I would suggest that you get your facts straight before attacking players and their ability to play the game. You may find this hard to believer but, sometimes it's not always about winning...it's about building character, sportsmanship, and being an outstanding student athlete that's a role model for other individuals. I can offer a few names if you'd care to meet them  Check back in about a month or so, I'm positive the coach will have been named by then! -

RD, this will never happen...to many people from both sides that don't want this. Regardless, if the two teams would have been combined over the last 15 years, it might have improved their chances of getting to the regional finals once or twice. Grant has been to the regional finals 1 time in the last 30 years. Can't comment about W-Town and their appearances. As for Billy G, he wouldn't survive there either.......dry county  -
