  12. St Henry 8 Walton 0. End of Q1.
  13. For anyone interested in watching these two games, it appears they will be streamed tonight.
  14. I am on a similar path. I rank 2A as follows: Beechwood > O Cath > LCA > Mayfield > Somerset > Belfry
  15. I heard Beechwood won but don’t have score. Anyone have a score? Does anyone know the score of the other matchup?
  16. Going from an 0-8 7th grade team to a 7-2 8th grade team, this Beechwood team has been a lot of fun to watch. Through a very painful, long 7th grade season where it would have been easy to quit and give up. They didn’t. They kept working all off season and improved every week during the season. Win or lose in the playoffs the 8th grade Tigers should be proud of this season. Stay hungry. Play physical and smart. Good luck Saturday.
  17. 8th Grade Playoff Preview Medium School Division at NCC St Henry is the 1 seed and plays Walton Verona the 4 seed., at 6p. These two teams played in week two and SH won 40-6. A lot has happened since week two but having seen both teams recently I think SH will get the win. WV will need to slow the pace of play down and have no turnovers to keep it close. SH has a lot of kids for depth and are coached very well. They are physical with an offense that can run and pass. I believe SH will control this game from start to finish. In the night cap at 730p, NCC is the two seed and will play Beechwood the three seed. NCC beat BW in week two 20-8. It was a very physical, hard fought game. It was the most penalized game I saw all season. NCC’s rb/athlete was outstanding in week two, so slowing him down will be key for BW to get the win. Not giving up the big run and forcing NCC to sustain drives will also be important if BW wants to win the game. These keys are obvious things but will be hard to accomplish. NCC is very good. Athletes in all the right spots. Strong and physical upfront. They were the second best team I saw this year and will be a tough out for anyone. In order for BW to win this game they will need to sustain drives. BW isn’t a big play team or offense, but they can grind out drives better than most other teams. Establish the run. Take the 3-5 yard gains. Move the chains. Keep NCC off the field. When the time is right work in the pass. Hitting on a few pass plays at the right time will help keep the NCC defense honest. BW line play has been really good all year and this week will be a great test for them. If they can win upfront and win the turnover battle, I think the tigers will get the revenge win this Saturday.
  18. I will take the other side of this one. That type of offense can also be a detriment when they fall behind and have to chance a team. I don’t think Belfry is actually physical enough this year and while I am sure they have some very good athletes they limit those guys by being so one dimensional. Who doesn’t love some old school smash mouth football, but at some point you need to be able to do more than run the ball. I think this year Belfry line play just won’t be enough against any of the top four. I also think Somerset would give them all they want.
  19. These teams and kids are very fortunate that the northern Kentucky area can support a freshman league. Allowing kids to get valuable reps and continuing to develop with game action is a great thing. Thanks for keep us updated Colonels_Wear_Blue.
  20. Please note that all times and locations I have provided are from the league website. While it is usually accurate middle school football is sometimes a lower priority (for field time), so game times and locations are sometimes flexed. Ultimately just saying be sure to check with your local team to confirm this week’s action. Lastly, later in the week I will provide a preview for the 8th Grade Medium Division matchups. I have seen all four teams play and should be able to provide a little more detail for those matchups.
  21. 8th Grade Playoff Preview Small School Division I am not that familiar with these teams but it appears that Holy Cross and Covington Catholic are the higher seeds These games are slated to be played at Newport on 10/17. Holy Cross vs Brossart at 6p and Cov Cath vs Newport at 730p. Large School Division Twenhofel (2) and Turkeyfoot (1) are the higher seeded teams. I have only seen one of these four teams play, so again not real comfortable commenting on them. These games a scheduled for 10/17 at Dixie. Twenhofel vs Highlands at 6p and Turkeyfoot vs Summit View at 730p.
  22. 7th Grade Playoff Preview Beechwood went undefeated and faces a two lose Summit View team in the final four round. I haven’t seen SV play but I know BW has been very good this year. Swarming, physical defense. Several solid athletes on offense. Strong line play that makes their run first offense go. This game is scheduled for a 530p kickoff. Twenhofel versus Covington Catholic in the other semifinal game. I believe both teams have two loses. I have not seen Twenhofel play but I know CC took BW to overtime, so they are pretty solid. This game will immediately follow game one with kickoff planned for 7p. Should make for a good night of action this Thursday with these two matchups at Twenhofel.
  23. Several missing scores, so it’s hard to provide an exact records/standings. I do know that in the 8th grade Medium School Division, St Henry finished with a perfect 9-0 record and will be the 1 seed vs Walton Verona. Beechwood finished with a 7-2 record and will be the 3 seed vs NCC. I am attaching all tournament matchups and will try to provide short preview for the 8th grade Medium School Division games later in the week.
  24. Woodford County Campbell County Kentucky Country Day Dayton Kentucky Tiebreaker #1: 72
  25. Great regular season for the 8th grade Beechwood Tigers. They wrapped up the season with a big win today over Walton Verona to finish the regular season at 7-2. BW took the opening possession to the one foot line before fumbling away the ball. WV gave the gift back on the next possession by throwing a pick six. BW added a second score on a drive that was all about the run. WV hung around and made several splash plays on a 98-yd drive that ended in a TD. Second half started with BW leading WV 16-6. BW held WV on the first possession. BW scored there third TD on a 15-yd screen pass. Late in Q3 BW recovered a fumble and scored their last TD a few plays later rushing the ball. WV would score one more time, late in Q4. The final score was 32-14, Beechwood. No major injures; just the usual aches and pains. Next Saturday the 8th grade playoffs will begin. I will post later in the week to wrap up the regular season and preview the playoffs.
