I will be following the Beechwood 8th grade team this year. I will provide some short weekly notes this season and scores. I may also see some of the Beechwood 7th grade team and might be able to share some scores.

I would encourage others to join along and keep us updated about the team you follow. Let’s keep it positive here and encouraging for these young student athletes.

The Tigers head to Mason County tomorrow for their first scrimmage of the season.

6/7 grade Beechwood dominated, both sides of the ball.

While the 8th grade game was more competitive than the early game the 8th grade Tigers came out on top. They ran the ball well. More opportunities to improve the passing game. Defense was solid but did give up a few long pass plays. The 8th grade team showed nice growth from last season. It will be fun to see how they develop over the rest of the season.

Both teams scrimmage again next week versus Summit View.

8/15. Summit View Academy at Beechwood. Scrimmage.

6th grade played one quarter. BW won the quarter 7-0.

7th grade played three quarters. BW won those quarters 12-7.

8th grade played three quarters. BW won those quarters 21-6. BW scored first, with a drive that had several productive sweep runs. Next score was set up by a long pass to the 3-yd line, then scored on a short swing pass. The third TD was a second long pass play. Both the long passes had to be more than 30 air yards to two different WRs. BW gave up one long TD pass to SVA in the third quarter, but overall the Tiger defense was dominant. Both teams subbed liberally in the third quarter and all kids got some reps. Both teams had short benches and you could tell the kids were tired at the end, especially factoring in the heat/humidity. Not sure about small bumps and bruises, didn’t see any true injuries, which is always a great thing.

Very encouraging start for the BW middle schoolers. Next week starts the regular season when the 8th grade Beechwood Tigers will host Campbell Co, on 8/22.

Week 1

Beechwood 7th grade won 27-6 over Campbell County. I didn’t get to see any of the game.

Beechwood 8th grade beat Campbell Co 6-0. I couldn’t be happier for this group of kids (all 18 of them). If you followed this thread last year, then you know this group as 7th graders didn’t get a win last season. Game was sloppy on both sides. CC had a lot of trouble with the shotgun snap. BW didn’t have much success passing the ball. Both teams had a few fumbles and plenty of penalties. So, it wasn’t pretty but it was a win. BW line dominated both sides of the ball. They opened up holes in the running game which allowed them to grind out the lone score of the game. BW line stopped the run and got to the QB several times. It felt like BW could have scored at least once more and definitely had more yards, along with more time of possession. This win was a long time coming. They have stayed dedicated and worked hard, during the offseason and this summer. Looking forward to seeing them continue to develop and I think there are more wins to come. Lastly, didn’t see any bad injuries, just the usually bumps and bruises.

Week 2 will have the 7th graders from Beechwood hosting Cov Cath. The 8th graders will host NCC (who had a great 7th grade team last year), so it will be a real test.

Beechwood 7th grade bested Cov Cath last night in OT 23-22. With the score tied BW QB ran a naked bootleg to the left into the endzone for the extra point and win. They are now 2-0 on the season.

Beechwood's 8th grade team lost to a good NCC team last night 20-8. BW got down early giving up a passing TD and a long TD run. It was 14-0 at the half. After the half the defense made some adjustments and offense made more plays. A great pass and catch set up the Tigers on the one, which was finished off with a rushing TD up the middle to make the score 14-8. BW had an opportunity in the 4th (down 6) but the drive stalled and ultimately ended on a long 4th down INT, that basically acted as punt. NCC drove the field had the ball inside the 10, when the QB tossed an INT (with both the offensive and defensive player wrapped around the ball), however the great play was negated by a late hit penalty on the QB, by the BW defense. NCC went on to score another rushing TD and finish with the win. ALOT of penalties on both sides, several of which were of the personal foul variety, along with a few turnovers on both sides. I am very proud of the way the Beechwood boys played, they remained composed, worked all night, and never gave up. Offensively they are little challenged, but they stay positive and grind. The line on both sides of the ball remains a constant bright spot, along with a defense that never quits and gang tackles. Tigers are now 1-1, on the season.

Next week, on 9/2, Grant Co travels to Fort Mitchell with games at 630 and 8.

Last night was a big night for both the Beechwood 7th and 8th grade teams. Grant County made the trip to Fort Mitchell and were dominated in both games. Both games were running clock wins for the Tigers. Grant had a few guys that needed a little help off the field, but I don't believe there were any significant injuries. Both BW teams won with dominate run games and strong defense. It was nice to see BW get to empty the bench, which got some game reps for kids that have practiced hard, but haven't had a ton of in game opportunities

7th grade score was 30-0.

8th grade score was 36-0.

7th grade Tigers travel to Cov Cath, on 9/10.

Beechwood 8th grade takes on Dayton, on 9/10, at home.

NKMSAA is into week four. I posted standings through week three in the previous message. Some scores were missing and I believe there are few heat makeup games pending. Lastly, I would not be shocked if I made mistake when transferring some of the information.

The Beechwood 8th grade team hosted Dayton last night. They got a big win, moving to 3-1, and everyone got reps. It was nice to see players that don't often get to play much get to play. Not only did they get to play but also got some 'forced' touches to really get them involved in the action. Final score on the scoreboard was 52-0 (but I think it was wrong and should have been 44-0). I won't go into the details but BW did anything they wanted in all three phases of the game. They rushed well, which is their bread and butter, but they also completed some nice passes last night. Another week where it appeared both teams stayed healthy.

8th grade plays Woodland at home, next Wednesday. The 7th grade also plays that night, but based on the schedule it might be a JV game (mostly 6th graders).

The BW 7th grade team has been impressive this season. Fun to watch.

Big development from week four was the matchup of NCC at St. Henry. Both teams were 3-0 and St. Henry got the 22-21 victory. If anyone has any details please post some information. I am sure it was a great game between two good teams. I am posting an updated week four standing for the 8th grade but again some scores were missing (plus the possibility of my human error), so it isn't going to be perfect.

Week 5. Cat Fight in Fort Mitchell tonight. Tigers vs Wildcats.

7th grade team from Beechwood beat Woodland 34-0 to remain undefeated.

8th grade team from Beechwood beat Woodland 43-24 to move to 4-1. The Tigers defense gave up several big plays including a 90-yd TD screen pass on 4th and 18. The defense did end the Wildcats first drive of the second half with a 4th down stop inside the five, which the Tiger offense turned into points on the next drive to extend the lead to 36-18. The Beechwood offense turned in their best performance of the season. I believe the offense scored on every possession tonight. Pass game was the best and most consistent it has been all season. QB connected on three TD passes. Run game is always solid and it was again tonight, leading to three other TDs.

Saw a few small bumps and bruises. Some cramping in the humid weather. But all in all I think both teams finished the game In good health.

Beechwood 8th grade plays, at Tichenor tomorrow night, at 730p, in week six action. It's going to be nice playing a game where the temperature isn't 85+.
