  1. I believe he was caught up in cut backs at Scott Co. Mercer had a PE postiion open and he applied and was hired. Don't know but I would assume that if he had retained his teaching position he would have still been the DC at Scott.
  2. He was most recently the DC at Scott Co. I think he has coached in NC and TN an outstanding pick up for the Mercer program. I think he will be coaching the defensive line.
  3. Non District Schedule Breathitt @ Campbellsville @ Tates Creek Lafayette @ Anderson Co. Boyle Co. @ Marion Co.
  4. The 0-10 season, really clouded everyone from the 1st 3 seasons that Mason had at NC. They were extremely competitive and he always plays tough schedules. This is a good situation for Bill and he will be a huge asset for the Mercer/Harrodsburg community.
  5. Congrats to Coach Mason, his family and the Mercer County players. This process is now behind them and they can move on to football.
  6. Could not have said it better myself. I can tell you one thing about Mason if indeed it is offered he will do what is right for the kids of Mercer and his family. That quote in the paper was before he knew Brown wasn't going to be accept the job so that says alot about him in my book.
  7. You have got to be kidding me. If true I would say the search committee for the new principal is starting to form.
  8. Excuse me for not being sold on the Brown hire, as I have stated earlier it says alot about a person to do what he is going to do to Rowan Co. You can say he is from the area, he is this and he is that. But Rowan Co. gave him his first head coaching job and he is going to return the favor by leaving during the dead period. It just isn't right, no job is worth doing that to school districts or kids. During the dead period can an administration call the team together to let a coach tell them he is leaving? I would think not but just curious how Brown plans on handling that.
  9. The board and the new super needs to step in before Yates messes this hire up. How they can let this happen is beyond comprehension.
  10. Does anyone have any information on Mason's plans? Is he looking to stay at Mercer?
  11. I don't think this is the place to be discussing a person's personal life. Everyone of us including myself have had ups and downs, and none of us are perfect and everything should be left at that. I will only say it is easy to sit back and question what Jaggers was or was not doing and not have any idea of the working conditions that the principal puts every coach under. There is a reason there are disgruntled coaches, and if this entire hiring process doesn't exemplify that then I guess you will just never see the whole picture due to your dislike for the former head coach. Apparently the hiring committee was put together but this has been a one man band and Yates has totally disregarded what his committee recommended. Anyway maybe he will get it right this time but I really have issues hiring a coach who is willing to leave his program during the dead period. For the sake of the kids, I hope Mercer can get this one right. How many of the assistants were at the meeting with Weaver? It is imperative for any incoming coach to have a solid staff, I was just wondering how receptive the staff was at his coaches meeting.
  12. The only sad part about the whole situation is that the Mercer team is without a captain. I thought Mason was the best choice for numerous reasons to start with but when they chose Weaver I thought OK they went in a different direction lets rally behind the program. Well after Weaver leaves you kind of suspect that Mason would get the offer but apparently they offer it to Brown. I honestly think that Yates will not offer it to Mason at any point because he feels that is what the kids and the staff want and that would in some way make him feel that he gave in to their wishes. Mason knows how to run a program and can rally the players and coaches in time to begin practice, but it appears that Yates is dead set on bringing in an outsider. We shall see, surely they wouldn't offer it to Brown and not know whether he would take it or not. So is it a given that Brown will accept the job?
  13. Didn't Weaver also interview and get offered the Harrison Co. job? I believe he said that in his press conference. My only question is what in the heck are these other candidates thinking. Clevenger and Brown are head coaches do they leave their program during the dead period? Don't know Thomas so I don't know where he stands. Then there is Mason, you are assistant HC/D Coor and you get passed over if they offer do you accept? This is crazy! Why blame Jaggers for this fiasco? He couldn't do anything until they hired a super. As soon as that was done he talked to both and wanted to do what many coaches do and the super agreed and the principal shot that plan down. Now you want to blame him? I think all know where the blame should be placed!
  14. I believe he is in his early to mid 30's. So I don't think he will be retiring anytime soon.
  15. Honestly I don't think Mason ever had a shot. Not that he didn't deserve it because he would have definitely been my choice. But I think they interviewed him to satisfy the assistants and the players and then pulled the rug out from under him. I don't think Yates was going to let anyone from Jaggers staff lead the program. I would bet Mason ends up at either Boyle or Danville.
  16. The disheartening part about it all is that according to the amnews the candidates were not notified that a selection had been made. Which I could be wrong but you would think it would be a courtesy to call the other finalist and let them know instead of them hearing it from someone else. I agree though time to move on and hopefully the community can come together and keep the program moving forward.
  17. Yes, his name was out there one of the 5 they interviewed. Honestly I thought the job would go to either Mason or Clevenger. In reading the quotes from the principal he wanted someone that knew what Mercer had been through during consolidation and then picks a guys from the other end of the state. Then before he makes the offer he is already talking about the things that could be "deal breakers in the hire" like the hiring of assistant coaches or hiring of a spouse.
  18. What is it with the Madisonville job that causes so much turnover? This is just really strange situation, will Weaver even meet his players before the season? Also isn't this a lateral move for Weaver? Is he in a better situation at Mercer than Madisonville? In speaking with their coaches in the off season they thought their sophomore class had a chance to be special. I was kind of hoping they would give Mason a shot. I know the kids were wanted him and the staff was behind him. I thought they might show some loyalty and give him a look. Oh well interesting to see which assistants hang around. I bet Clevenger is sweating bullets rumor has it he didn't even alert the Henderson administration that he was interviewing at Mercer. Now he has to go back, that could be a tough situation.
  19. Looks like Weaver is their man. Wow! Didn't see this one coming!
  20. I don't know DJ personally, I take your word on his character. However I am not for sure if he has ever coached at any level and besides it has been stated earlier that he isn't yet certified. To turn a program like Mercer over to someone with no Head Coaching experience would really be surprising. Maybe they just interviewed him just to give him experience at going through the process. Will a decision be made before the dead period?
  21. That is a very good question I would assume that most of the assistants are in Mason's corner. If they were to hire outside and some of the assistants leave it could put the new coach in a real disadvantage this late in the game. The other question that hasn't been talked about much is the position that Clevenger, Brown or Weaver would put their program in if they were to leave. Tough situation all the way around.
