  1. Jana Costner Named Head Girls Basketball Coach CAL is pleased to announce Jana Costner as the new head girls’ basketball coach. “Deciding to come to CAL was an easy choice for me as a wife, mother and coach. CAL aligns with my core values. I'm excited to conduct player evaluations, to see where we are and create a plan to put them in a position to be successful for where we want to go. I look forward to establishing and building a relationship with my new CAL family as well as continuing the history and tradition set by previous players and coaches,” said Costner. CAL Director of Athletics, Darin Long, said “We are excited about Coach Costner joining CAL Athletics. She brings a great passion for developing players and understands the strengths of our program. We are confident that she will build upon our winning tradition.” “My vision is to win every day and to make progress each day--in the classroom, on the court and in the community,” said Costner. “My goal is to maintain our presence in the district, region and across the state. My expectation is to play with integrity, to demonstrate good sportsmanship and be disciples for Christ. These characteristics are tools that will prepare them for life in college and in their careers.” Costner has been the girls head coach at Jeffersonville High School and the Brown School. She was an assistant at Eastern HS as well as in the Houston and Nashville areas before relocating to Louisville. She currently teaches Spanish at Jeffersontown Elementary school.
  2. This was not an "AAU" tournament.....this was a Midwest Youth Tournament (ran by Midamerica Sports Center in Louisville). Good competition....but wont run into the "ELITE" teams (PREMIER, TN FLIGHT, Dayton Hoopstars, etc.).
  3. I know Holland a little bit....."acquaintance" not "friend".....have not talked to him since all of this went down. But I can guarantee you he had no intentions of being a one and done coach at MC. He left a pretty good thing at Oldham. He is not a "hit and run" coach. I have no idea what happened at MC, but will say that he was not the sole decision maker in this departure.
  4. Surely he was not let go so Happy could come back??? Shame on all of them (including Happy) if that is the case!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. North is what i heard as well. Didnt Happy just hire Doss coach? Hire a guy and then leave? Hopefully that guy would get KWC job and not be left out in cold??? What is going on down that way? HA!!!!!!!
  6. I heard over a week ago.......that he might be going back to the same county from which he came????????????????
  7. andy groves from HCC is taking job at Owensboro high school.
  8. I think the teaching salary (and perks) in comparison with surrounding counties are pretty good in Jefferson. I don't know how the coaching pay stacks up....other than I am sure it is not enough based on the time that is put in!!!
  9. KC Goodin.........not sure where he went.....but had seen his name mentioned for a few jobs. He did a great job at Doss.
  10. Retweeted by Jason Frakes Richard Skinner ‏@nkyskinner · 1h Per NewCath girls' basketball coach George Stoll, standout senior basketball player Nikki Kiernan committed to Thomas More last night.
  11. Word is that Fern Creek has their guy......but are being hush hush about who it is. i guess they have to get Board of Ed approval.
  12. no problem......my point is if your numbers are accurate, almost half of the top kids in Kentucky are not representing Kentucky. This game used to mean something.....times are changin'.
  13. Sorry....I thought that had been answered......Hatton was there.
  14. did not read proposal----but in theory couldnt agree more. Holding kids back for athletic ONLY purposes has become too casual. STUDENT-athletes.
  15. you have 11 kids listed there and 5 are not on all-star roster for one reason or another (some hurt, some didnt attend).
  16. Thats the big problem, these kids don't know how to "play basketball." You dont have to "run plays" to play basketball. What about a pass and cut (cant do that because it required a pass which didnt happen on 75% of the "possessions." A pick and roll, an offball screen??? But it is much easier/and flashier to put your head, shoulder, eyes down and try to get to the rim against 5 guys. Kentucky has some talented kids.....just dont know that it will carry them through against a loaded Indiana team.
  17. ivy brown was a standout---lawrence was second best----the rest were a notch below.
  18. the 2 mentioned did not attend. there were only 26 or 27 out of 40 that did show up. then they played street ball for a little bit and picked who they knew they were going to going in.
  19. I attended the tryouts and was amazed/disappointed/shocked/angry at how it was done. If this game doesnt mean anything, then the tryouts were perfectly set up for that. But if a kid plays all their life and dreams of being a KY all-star, and shows up for a street ball game, it just doesnt seem right. It was unorganized chaos. Whoever had the ball, shot the ball!!!
  20. I think i heard gilbert didnt show up-----wouldnt swear to it.
