I hope that he gets the job because he is a good coach and not because of the color of his skin. The reason I say this is because of the article that was written in the Danville Advocate, yesterday. I didn't know nor did I care as to what his skin color was until I read the article.

Right on the money about Todd Davis. From chilhood until now, lazy has been his middle name. This is why he fits in so well with Terry Yates. A good AD would not have let this crap happen.

Your exactly right! This program will never be righted until he is gone. It doesn't help matters that they have a wishy washy AD, either.

That's Yates. A lot of double talk! I am sort of shocked by this. I thought that they would go with the guy from Tenn or Clevenger. Oh well, time to move on and get the program started on the right foot.:dancingpa

Not for sure what answer you want here but here is what I have heard in the past week. Tatum is moving over to the girls team to be an assistant and rumblings are that Cundiff is doing everything he can to get out of Mercer and to find another coaching job.

I spoke to Dennis back in the spring and he said that he was coaching at a middle school in Lexington, I believe. Not for sure if he is teaching or not. Dennis and his father are class acts that the Mercer school system needs not only in coaching but administration as well. Doubt that this will happen, though.

To my knowledge, they have not fired their coach. However, rumblings are that it may not be a firing but that Nelson Cundiff will not be back next year. The Peanut Gallery (which includes me) is hoping that they will do a clean sweep of the bench and start over.

I have used this site many times and the timing is not always 100% correct but it does put you into the ball park. What I am saying is that the Richmond schools may not want these long drives and extra gas expense that they will sure to incur if they join the 12th. Also, even though the 12th is not a power region it will not be a sure thing for Madison Central to win. Just ask the Jessamine schools.

These are good points but I was just pointing out that the good people at Madison Central, Model and Madison Southern shouldn't be getting too giddy about joining the 12th due to the distance that they will have to travel to play. But, then again they may just be happy to not have to play the Lexington schools anymore.

I have never made this drive myself but according to Yahoo Maps this is the time that it would take to get from Richmond to Monticello.

You may think different of this after a 2.5 hr bus ride to Wayne Co. on a cold late Feb night. Oh, yeah. Don't forget about the 2.5 hr bus ride back that same night!

Somebody had better start thinking about the length of travel that will be required if this happens. Currently it is a 35 to 45 minute bus ride to the Jessamine schools from Mercer but will stretch to 1 to 1.5 hours to the Madison Co. schools. This would give Mercer a 1 hour or longer bus ride to 10 of the 16 schools in the 12th region (Wayne, McCreary Central, Southwestern, Pulaski, Somerset, Casey, Rockcastle, Monticello and the 2 Richmond schools). Is this something that needs to be done in this time of economic and fuel issues?

I really hope that they do not go to the 12th. This region is already spread out too far, IMO.

I doubt and hope that this does not happen.

Depending on which way they go with the coaching decision that needs to be made, Mercer should have one of their better teams in several years. With that being said, we are likely to be just like this year if they don't get a new coach.

Another interesting tidbit about West Jessamine's run is that it was the deepest run in the State Tourney EVER by a 46th district team.

Boy, you got that right! As a fan of Mercer Co. I hope that what I heard is true and that they are going to "clean the bench" at Mercer. Speculation has long been that head coach Nelson Cundiff is going to be let go. Odviousely, former Harrodsburg head coach and current assistant coach at Mercer, Spencer Tatum, would like to have the job. The hope here is that they do not go this route as it would not help improve the program. I heard 2 good rumors at the State Tourney this past week concerning this job. 1. Don Irvine current coach at Burgin 2. A current coach at a State Tourney team that I will not name due to his current situation. Both of these "rumors" come from VERY good sources of whom I do not doubt one bit. Whoever takes over this program will be stepping into a very good situation. New gym, a community that is waiting for a winner and good upcoming talent (the JV team went undefeated and won the region tournament).
