Way to go Lady Bears!

I don't care what TN done! I care about our KY boys! By the way I wouldn't be caught dead on a TN site or anything to do with TN sports. I purchased a hat just to help out since they were selling them and after I looked at it I noticed Tennessee in orange on it and I thought I can't have this in my house.! Just that crazy I guess.

Maybe had they ran the Benedict kid from Estill (5'10 210) more than once instead of the 5'8 160/165 guys all the time they would have established a running game. He deserved just as much exposure as anyone else. Just my opinion, I guess I will just have to let it die!

Again a man (coach) should suck it up and not have to improve their ego by winning a game that is to highlight the players. This is directly from the website. "The Border Bowl is a non-profit organization established to promote high school football in Kentucky and Tennessee. The objective is to provide an ALL-STAR game featuring the top players in Kentucky and Tennessee. This game allows players to have one more opportunity to play, practice and battle it out for the rights to the border. It also allows high school seniors to gain additional exposure and perhaps earn a scholarship for college. Each player must be nominated by a coach. All player profiles are reviewed by a panel of coaches from their home state." It says one more opportunity to play, practice, AND battle. Not just practice! I'm sure wearing KENTUCKY on their jersey was an awesome experience, but getting to knock the orange off of something would be part of the experience too. The two players I was interesting in seeing play got to play, but some didn't and a lot of them never got to play their usual positions. The Greer kid that won a championship with Bell County as a RB Hardly ran the ball if any, but I guess he is good enough to be a running back for the state champs but not in an all star game. I don't think he should have been the premiere back, but getting to run it 3 or 4 times wouldn't have hurt.

Practice is not a game. Whole different situation. The NFL pro bowl can do it with NFL ego's. But like I said this is just the second year of this game and I'm sure they have more than this to work on to make it even better.

They play in January because National Signing begins in February and they want to showcase these boys for that. Having said that, showcasing these boys means they should let everyone play! The point of this is not winning. I believe there were several boys that didn't get off the sidelines. It's always good to beat Tennessee, but not when it can cost these young men a chance at a scholarship. Check the website it's for showcasing these young men, of course they are going to play hard to beat TN but everyone on the team would do that. I'm guessing some folks traveled a pretty long way for this I hope their kid got to play. In my opinion that is ridiculous! Either the roster needs to be smaller or everyone needs to play. I figure his is only the 2nd year and they have to work the kinks out so I expect this problem to get resolved down the road and make this game even better. I really enjoyed the game! Everything but the playing time was done exceptionally well. Good Job! I hope this continues.

Completely looked over him, with those two I don't see any else playing. Didn't both of them break a Tim Couch record?

Way to go Black Bears!!! Whether it is Harlan Independent, Harlan City, or just Harlan it still starts with a big L against the Black Bears!

Zach Lewis from Clay is a QB and Hunter Adams from Middlesboro has played QB quite a bit, but he is one of those talents simply called an athlete. I don't know a lot about these kids are there any other QB's on the list and how exactly do they determine playing time?

They seem to be a really balanced team when I go to my father in laws houseboat down in TN we sometimes catch them playing on TV, must be pretty solid I have seen them on TV a few times down there.

Harlan Counties schedule: All I really know about the order is Southwestern in a Bowl game to kick off the season and playing someone in Western KY in December! I look for the Harlan County/Bell rivalry to be huge I mean HUGE, especially if Harlan County can continue to build a solid program. Leslie and Letcher will be rivals but no where near what Bell will be. I could see Letcher becoming a good one coming close to Bell since they are district opponents.

I look for them to be better. Most people don't agree with me, but I believe they will be better but not more talented. We will more than likely have a sophomore QB and Shequille Clark replacing seniors Blanton and Gilliam. Plus we lose some on defense, but this years team will have the advantage of a years experience and a full off season with Larkey. I for one believe Clark will shine and along with some help from Dwight Burgan, Dylon Smith, Cody Taylor, and Marcus McMillian will help us not miss Gilliam as much! And we still have TJ Green. The Defense and QB will be our biggest concerns. That's in my opinion. But I do think the Defense will come together!

Didn't I just say that? I am very excited about the schedule and the team Harlan County has in 09! I don't think there is a pushover on our schedule and that is what it takes to win. Go Bears!

Keeping to what I preach about supporting a team if you are a fan, I predict the Black Bears will be 10-0! But away from Uncle Rico world I believe 8-2 is very achievable. Powell Valley VA isn't a pushover by any means. I like this schedule a lot, I can see almost every game/team becoming a classic rivalry. There isn't a team on the schedule that is more than an 1 1/2 away.

You kind of remind me of the Chick Filet (couldn't remember how it's really spelled) Commercials. The pork tastes so goooooood! Though

It didn't cost us anything a local ATV club done everything and gave the boosters the profit. We had booster members helping but for cooking the actual pig they done it all with bake beans, corn, and some of the best taters around! Thanks for the suggestion if we have to purchase in the future I will remember your advice.

I just know what I heard from someone that used to be in the school system, so I could be true but it could be gossip, I hope it's true. Don't forget someone already got Black Mountain Resources to part with a little bit of money for the football field. So their pockets aren't exactly empty! And I believe Papa Bear could tell us what all work needs to be done to make a good baseball field. Are they still planning on putting tennis courts and a soccer field in the complex? And what about the aquatic center?

Harlan County had a pig roast last summer and it seemed to be pretty popular! A lot of people worked hard to get it done though.
