3wishes, you are soooo right. It will take total dedication from the boys to get to where Coach Larkey wants them to be. If they will buy into what he wants then yes, the sky is the limit for the Black Bears.

A state championship sounds great but we need to be patient with Coach Larkey and the Black Bears. It might take some time to get things the way he wants them.

We would need someone other than Lee Co. Lee Co. is already on Harlan County's schedule.

I was talking to a very good friend of mine and he is very, very, very close to the superintendent of Harlan County Schools and he was telling me of what I thought was a great idea. Me and my friend were just talking about this and that and he had what I thought was a GREAT idea. He said we ought to have a bowl with Bell County. We could name the bowl the "Tri-State Bowl", "Border Bowl" or something like that. Since Harlan County has agreed to play Bell County in regular season then the school who host the bowl would travel to the other school in the regular season. Example, if Harlan County host the bowl then they would travel to Bell County for the regular season game. The bowl could be set up as follows: if it is called the Tri-State Bowl then we could get a team from Virginia and one team from Tennessee. The teams could sign a two year contract to the bowl and would play each of the Kentucky schools ( Harlan County and Bell County). If we could not find a VA school then we could call it the Border Bowl and have two TN schools. What does all think? I think it is a great idea. Since Middlesboro and Harlan have refused to play each county school then I think it is only right for the County schools not to have anything to do with a city/county bowl with the city schools. I hope the higher ups or someone that can do something about this will look into this. I know my friend has mentioned to the superintendent. So hopefully something can be worked out.

Does anyone know how many seniors Powell Co. will have this year? I just can't get them off my mind. I feel so sorry for them.

Bayshore, Lungbuster has plenty of friends on here. I think you are the outcast on this thread. Anyway, I too feel the same as Mama Bear, I feel it time the County looks out for itself for one time and not worry about keeping the City up. I vote no city/county bowl. My suggestion was call Bell County and have a County/County bowl. Have two very good teams come in and rotate the games and sites. One year at Harlan County the next at Bell County and so on.

One good thing about the Estill and Breathitt games is that they are both at home. Harlan Co. only has three home games and thank goodness both of them are at home. They still have to travel to Fleming Co. which I believe will be a tough game for the Bears and if they don't come ready to play they might get it handed to them.

I think that Harlan Co. has a long way to go and a lot of proving to do before they can even think about playing with Breathitt Co. I am really scared about the Estill Co. game. I am not saying the Black Bears can't win this district but it is a long way off at this time. If they can start off with some early wins then that will go a long way for them before they get into district games.

Don't count out Estill this year, this could be their year. Plus Harlan County has to go to Fleming. Don't get me wrong I am for the Black Bears through and through but I am just trying to be a realist. I am not trying to be rude or anything but please I would appreciate it if all would refer Harlan County by that name and not Harlan. Two totally different schools.

How will this district shape up? These are my preseason picks. 1. Breathitt Co. 2. Estill Co. 3. Harlan Co.(close 3rd with Fleming) 4. Fleming Co.

Either one of those teams would be nice pick ups. What date does Harlan County have open now?

It is true that Harlan County will be moving up to 5A next year BUT, that is still no excuse to punish the players , Seniors. Harlan County will be in 3A next year and in Powell Co. district so what does next year have to do with it. Maybe I am just making too much of this but I really feel for the seniors.

Youthcoach, I agree with you 100%. This is simply a statement a bad one at that but a statement by the school because of Harlan Co. classification this year. I just can't understand though why they would drop Harlan Co. and lose a chance to make the playoffs and still keep Breathitt and Estill which in my opinion are the teams to beat in that district until Harlan Co. can prove something. It is just so sad for the players especially the seniors. I just can't imagine what it would feel like knowing I am playing for nothing. If I were the players I would go to the coaches, principal, AD, superintendent, board, judges, congress, president, the UN or someone and have them change it back.:fight:

I just wonder how the kids feel about this. I feel the kids are being cheated. I mean my goodness they just about beat Cawood last year, as a matter of fact they should have beat Cawood last year. I think the coaches were putting their feeling first and the kids feelings last in this situation. That is like saying, guys, we don't have a chance so we are going to drop Harlan Co. and we are just going to play for fun this year and not compete.

Bayshore, it seems to me that you have it all backards, as we in the county might say. You stated that the county only wants to play when they have the upper hand. It just seems to me the total opposite. Harlan wouldn't play Cawood in football forever in the 80's and 90's but when they thought they could compete then the decided to do it. Seems like the games with HCHS will be no different. If I was the county officials I would never give Harlan the priviledge to play HCHS.

Harlan Co. had to scratch, dig and beg for games this year. I thought that was a pretty low shot there Bayshore about playing class A teams.

Bayshore, I think most county/city bowls rotate between the four teams playing, which would mean that Harlan Co. and harlan ind. would play. Think of the gate that would bring in for the programs. AND, you saying that Harlan Co. has 1400 kids makes no sense because harlan is already playing two 5A teams.

Has anyone heard of how the Black Bear practices are going? Today was their second practice together and I was just curious how things are going. Are there any no shows? Who is impressing the coaches? Where is Lungbuster? He seems to always be on top of things with the Bears.

How many kids is coach Jones holding right now? Will they be in the new gym anytime soon?

Bayshore, keep in mind that this is only the second time these kids have worked together. Monday was the first time these kids have seen their new defense and offense, so it will take some time.
