  1. Easiest way to follow them is their website. If you go to the school district's website, go to "Departments," then "Athletics," and then click on the "Baseball" link to the right. They do a good job keeping the site up to date. They've played 5 games since returning from TN. They got hit hard by Scott on the way back, lost to Ryle, beat SK & then lost to CC by 1 in the Doc Morris, and looked like they hit the ball well last night in beating St. Henry. They're off to Cynthiana the next few days for a tourney - open with Brossart today. Maybe someone who's seen more of the games can comment on how they've been playing.
  2. I'm relatively new to this area and only got to see Jared Lorenzen play once, but I've never seen one player dominate a HS football game the way he did when I saw him. His skills and ability were awesome.
  3. They only had two games scheduled down there. Yesterday's game against Pigeon Forge HS was rained out. Nothing on the website about a reschedule yet. They're scheduled to play Gatlinburg-Pittman tomorrow, but no time listed.
  4. I beg to differ. The season opener against Holy Cross had a pretty decent crowd of Highlands fans. The 2 games this last weekend were down, but spring break was already underway. What exactly do you consider a decent crowd at a NKY high school game?
  5. I didn't get there until the 4th, but I saw Sainola hitting the outside corner hard, a Highlands batter get hit in the head by a breaking pitch and somehow not get awarded first base, some untimely errors for B-view, and a really nice opposite field walk-off dinger by Blake Newman. Way to go Birds!
  6. I'm sorry I missed this one. Keep your heads up Bird coaches & players. This sounds like a tough loss, but we know you're working hard and are heading in the right direction!
  7. I guess that's possible, but watching these guys on the football field this past fall, I can't imagine any message delivered would be about effort. Then again, everyone's human.
  8. That would penalize hard work & reward complacency. Not fair at all to the kids who come behind a year or two of strong jr/sr classes.
  9. Too many classes, way too many teams making the playoffs who don't belong there, about one too many games played to get to the championship game. To me the argument is not if the playoffs are watered down, it's whether watered down playoffs are a good idea. For me, the answer is NO.
  10. Congrats to the coaches & players on getting your first win right out of the box! Tough next 4 or 5 games. Hang in there!
  11. Any scrimmages before the first game on Monday?
  12. You got me. What exactly is a post-high school, prep school?
  13. Schnikies! Glad I'm not carrying those rolls.
  14. Awesome! That's great news. Can't wait for the season to start. Everything continues to look up for the HHS program!
  15. Website currently shows 12 varsity players, 10 srs, 2 jrs.:idunno:
  16. Come on guys. No posts in over a week - we're loosing momentum.:idunno: Let's hear some chatter out there! How'd tryouts go? When will we see a roster? Any surprises?
  17. I think a lot of it has to do with how fragmented our society is now days, and how much entertainment is available. Kids not finishing out their senior seasons is similiar to people not attending local amateur sporting events as much these days. People have so many choices now for entertainment, besides just playing sports or going to the friday night game. Let's face it, one of the reasons people did both of those in larger percentages 35 years ago is because what the heck else were they going do? No cable TV, no satellite TV, no Ipods, no video games, no multi-screen movie theaters in every city, no internet, no 24 hour sports & news TV coverage, etc, etc. Heck, it's the same reason people read more in the old days. It's weird. Our society is more sports obsessed now than ever, but that obessesion is more about watching sports on TV than actually participating in them in thier local community. Unless it's professional sports of course, then they'll spend insane amounts of money on personal seat licenses and season tickets to watch overpaid criminals give half-baked efforts.
  18. I liked the old-school stiching around the vent holes on the previous lids. Are they going with a modern fish-net style like most of the colleges? Any word from try-outs?
  19. My understanding is sometimes there haven't been enough high school kids to fill out the JV team, so 8th graders filled the open spots. With the increased amount of kids trying out this year, however, I assume there most likely won't be any spots left for 8th graders (I guess unless they actually beat out the freshmen). A frosh team would give those 8th graders a place to pay in the Highlands system (there is no middle school team).
  20. I know there are a bunch of 7th graders who would have loved to have been working out with the team these past couple months. We shouldn't have the same problem next year!
  21. Awesome :thumb: Now lets get that freshman team going next year! With the increase in amount of kids trying out, I can't imagine there'll be too many spots for 8th graders on the JV team. With no middle school team, we need somewhere for the 8th graders (maybe even 7th) to get involved with Highlands Baseball.
  22. What started this line of discussion though, was basically that UK was being compared to Stanford, and IMO (and I believe in most people's opinions), there is no comparison. It's like comparing Lexus and Pontiac. A Pontiac will most definitely move you down the road, but how nice was the ride, and how much is the Pontiac worth at the end of it all? Now if you compare a Lexus and an Acura (read Florida), well, the question gets tougher. While I'm sure there are people out there who when given their choice of free vehicles would take a Grand Am over an LS400, I think we can all agree that it's probably not the best choice over the long haul.
