  1. You and me both. I'll be rooting for those Lions to win it all if Holmes can't. I have a new appreciation for Dale Ferguson after reading this story, as well. The time and work he has put in with not only his son Jonathon, but also Ethan and Evan is truly a great thing. To him, I'd like to give a big :thumb: BTW, loved his quote regarding the store he runs..."If we don't have it, we'll get it...if we can't get it, you probably don't need it.."
  2. I agree. I'm not even a Beechwood fan and I've probably complained about them not receiving enough respect more than actual Beechwood fans have. I've been talking them up all year since I saw them against Holmes in the opening game for both teams. Beechwood is a legit team despite what their schedule might suggest.
  3. When did I ever say I had seen Flanigan? My original post was actually in response to people trying to discredit his award, saying their own player should have gotten it....so my opinion is actually of no bias at all, unlike several others. Also nobody ever said every player in the state has to be measured by whether or not they'd start for Holmes. I've never said that either, but considering the talent Holmes has this year in Riley, Johnson Brothers, and Pittman, and they are the class of NKY when it comes to talent, I choose to use their team for comparison when referring to other players, to give a player like Romes credit.
  4. I don't think you're getting the concept here. My point is, it's not all about the stats, which you keep bringing up. It's more about how you make your team better whether it be from scoring, getting assists, rebounding, or simply being on the floor and leading your team by being a vocal leader. I'll admit, it also has a lot to do with winning. One thing you've failed to mention though, is while Flanigan is the second leading scorer in nky, his teammate Ethan Glass is the 5th leading scorer in nky. That just goes to show how big of a presence Flanigan is on the floor and despite lacking the assists that Bryan and Beuttel have, his presence allows for other teammates to succeed as well...which is the true definition of a POY.
  5. I really don't see Newport keeping this one close. They have always struggled against Highlands because they are well disciplined and play good defense. Highlands won the first meeting by I believe 18 or 19. I don't think they win by that much this time, but I see them winning again. Highlands 64 Newport 50
  6. To all of you Elliott Co fans...after reading that story, I truly understand now, why you support the Lions and those young men the way you do. Great story and very informative for those who don't know much about EC! I really look forward to seeing these boys play at Rupp.
  7. Honestly I thought Pittman or Mcfarland would have gotten it. I was surprised that Ricardo received it.
  8. I haven't seen the young man who won the defensive POY award, so I can't comment on that, but I can say Romes is without a doubt one of the best defenders in NKY. He would most likely start at Holmes because of that as well.
  9. Player of the year is an individual who takes his TEAM to a higher level, while also achieving personal and individual success. Stats aren't the most important thing, but rather the little things, such as how their presence on the floor helps their team, how they perform in clutch situations, and how their teammates look up to them. Look at all three POY. Not one is the leading scorer for their divison, which just goes to show it's not all about the individual stats, but rather how they make their team better ALL AROUND. Here are the leading scorers for each division: DI- Elijah Pittman (Holmes)- 427 points POY- Ricardo Johnson (Holmes)- 313 points (3rd on Holmes team) DII- Jacob Rieger (Brossart)- 373 points POY- Matt Geisler (NCC)- 298 points DIII- Blake Bryan (Villa)- 768 points (through 25 games) POY- Joe Flanigan (Calvary)- 454 points I guess the coaches are out to get Rieger and Pittman too...right? Notice a trend with the DII and DIII POY? Both led their teams to the All "A."
  10. I don't see any personal bias among the coaches, despite what some want to think because of their own personal bias toward a certain player or team. I see the "coach bias excuse" as just that...an excuse as to why a certain person's favorite player or team didn't receive the award. Come on now guys...let's be realistic here. I doubt very seriously any of the D3 coaches have a personal vendetta out for certain KIDS. Flanigan is the second leading scorer in nky at 17 ppg, led his team to the state all A tourney, and has his team at 19-8. I really don't see the argument against him?
  11. Not sayin Flanigan is better, but he also led his team to the All "A" State tourney, and if not for a last second shot, would have had his team in the Elite 8...something both Bryan and Beuttel failed to do. Had Beuttel led his team to the 9th region "A" Championship, he'd have a much better case. As for Bryan, yes he sees double teams night in and night out, but honestly he's taking 25+ shots a game to get those 30 points every night. Flanigan DESERVES this award.
  12. I don't think anyone has Holmes in the state championship. Matter of fact, I've said several times, IF they get out of region, I'd be surprised if they got past Scott Co in the second round at the sweet 16.
  13. Not sure about in the 10th, but I know in the 9th juniors or seniors can win it. It usually goes to a senior though, unless a junior just has that big of a year. I'm not 100% sure, but I think Austin Hill of Holmes won it both his junior and senior year.
  14. What game were you watching? Rogers didn't play against Mason Co. With him returning though, GRC gets a guy that AVERAGES a double double EVERY night....I'd say this makes GRC a huge favorite considering they've already beaten Mason without him.
  15. And I'd probably say you're right...I've noticed this several times this year when I've seen Beechwood.
  16. It's usually voted on by all the coaches from each region and then at the end of the year the player selected as "Region POY" is honored at Rupp during I believe the first round of the sweet 16.
  17. Boone gets a nice little plaque from Ryan Ernst and The Enquirer, stating that they're the Enquirer NKY Boys Poll Champs....so pretty much...nothing.
  18. Not true. Juniors in the 9th have won it before. Unless it's different in the 10th, anyone can win it. I personally think it's a two horse race between Middleton and Hatton but if underclassmen are included, Stenzel has to be mentioned.
  19. Which is why I said Boone is playing better right now and is the favorite heading in to the post season. Was just stating if we were looking at overall body of work, like 4pointplay originally implied, that a case could be made for Holmes being ahead of Boone.. nothing more, nothing less. Take it FWIW.
  20. It may not have been a "direct" comment toward Henderson but everyone knows who was being referred to when the comment "He'll be playing at Georgetown, not Cincy St...." was made, after referring to the Holmes players. Nobody has said that no player will ever match up to the Holmes players, but we can't sit here and act like the recognition they get from OTHERS (not including me) isn't well deserved, considering Pittman and Rico could very well end up being two of the best players to ever come out of the 9th. Right now Pittman is ranked as the #1 prospect in KY for his position (#5 overall) and Rico the #1 overall prospect for the c/o 2010. IMO the DI POY award was well deserved considering the season he led Holmes to. At the beginning of the season, nobody thought this team would be entering the post season with just two losses and 7 wins over top 25 competition. I agree that Mcfarland has come a long way and has improved tremendously since last year, and it showed in the Holmes game this year, but let's not act like just because of one game, all of a sudden he's the best player in the region when other players have been doing that all year against top competition. Mcfarland is no doubt solid though, so don't think I'm bashing the kid. As far as Boone, I'm actually glad to see them have the season that they're having. Coach Mcqueary caught a lot of criticism last year and this year after losses, and IMO none of it was deserved. Good luck in the region tournament. Hopefully we see another Holmes/Boone match up. :thumb:
  21. Glad to hear Rogers is back...and I'm sure Goldie is as well. :thumb: The return of Rogers has to make GRC the favorite to come out of the 10th.
