  1. Catholic started on a 11-0 run and Station could never get close. Combs got 3 fouls early (2 on a foul + technical). Catholic looked almost unstoppable tonight. They will be a favorite to win it all.
  2. Unbelievable win for Henry Clay. Congratulations to the coaches and players.
  3. Dunbar will have most of their core back next year, and be strong. Many of the other teams in the 11th will be reloading. Franklin County also has everyone back.
  4. SC struggled with full court presses all year. I guess they were used to Mackey and Walls just dribbling through them. Many games, they looked like they were going in reverse when a team pressed them. I think the best 2 teams in the 11th region made it to the finals. It is a shame that so many good teams are in the 11th. Catholic and Bryan Station will be close I think. Should be a fun game.
  5. What an 11th regional Semi-Final. Top 3 teams in the state, plus Dunbar (who was top 10 I think). A shame that all 4 can't get to the sweet 16.
  6. So it is Holmes and Cov Cath in the finals?
  7. Agreed. Henry Clay had best freshman team in Lexington this year. It has been tough on them the last couple of years with Scott Co and Bryan Station at their peaks. All 3 graduate important seniors this year. Henry Clay graduated 7-8 seniors, and will have 1 returning starter. But their Freshman and JV teams were both very strong this year. Scott will still be very strong in that district next year. If Phares keeps developing, Scott will be very very good again. And they have an true 8th grader (Manning) that looks to be the real deal. But I think Henry Clay will be right up challenging Scott for #1. Depends on how the young kids develop over the summer and fall. Bryan Station will have a huge rebuilding job next year after loosing Mack, and 2-3 other key players. Mack is just so good, and makes that team go. And Sayre, what a tough tough district for them to be in.
  8. Wow, Bryan Station played at such a high level tonight. A little slow to start, but they got going in the second period. Scott seemed to get tired in the second, and that is when Bryan station got a double digit lead. Station plays with such intensity the entire game. I don't think Mack left the game until a minute or so left. I wish he were going to UK. The Gym was packed, and a great tournament atmosphere. Bryan Station had a great student section. And Scott County had half the gym packed. My congratulations to Station on winning a tough district. Only gets tougher next week.
  9. Anyone have the stats? GRC is young, but really coming on. Stenzel is going to be a great player. GRC will be tough in the 10th again next year. Coach Humphrey is an excellent coach too.
  10. I like Coach Brown, and am proud of what he is doing at Henry Clay. I can't comment on what went on Wednesday night, because I wasn't close enough to hear everything personally. I've heard a lot of rumors, and seen the back and forth on this thread. But some of what has been alleged seems out of character for Coach Brown. A lot of coaches get intense and say/do things during a game. Sometimes it helps and sometimes it doesn't. The line between intense coaching, and "over the top" is very subjective. I've sat behind hundreds of high school benches the last 20+ years. Almost every game, a coach says or does something that he or she can be criticized for. Take tonight for example.... Coach Hicks lost it tonight against Station, and it hurt his team I thought. The "T" gave Station 5 points right before the half, and stalled the Scott Co comeback. Coaches have good nights and bad nights too I guess. Fans is short for fanatics. Guess we all see things through rose colored glasses.
  11. Great game until the last 3 minutes. Dunbar could be surprise winner in the 11th, although they are pretty highly rated state wise.
  12. Thought Pineville would get to region, and then who know? Good season for them.
  13. Close game until the last few minutes. Henry Clay played well tonight, and was helped out by getting Victor Moses back. It was a shame he missed all but 7-8 games this year. Great basketball player and good kid. Probably could have played his way up to to mid-major D1 if not for the injury. Hope he still gets a good scholarship offer. 42nd and 43rd districts are killer again this year. 11th region has so many good teams. Unfortunate that only 1 will get to the Sweet 16. A lot of teams from these 2 districts loose important seniors this year. Scott will probably be strong in the 42nd and Dunbar in the 43rd next year. Phares didn't have a great game tonight, but he has improved a lot this year. Dunbar is good and doesn't loose much. Henry Clay does have a strong freshman and JV teams this year. Won most of their games, and beat Scott and Bryan station. So maybe Henry Clay can get out of district next year. Was a fun season. Looking forward to the rest of the tournament, and to next year.
  14. Clark will be the team to beat in the 10th next year I believe. Stenzel is going to be one of the tops in the state. Clark, Mason, and Montgomery will be a battle next year.
  15. Henry Clay played one of their better games of the year. Especially with Moses still out (will be back Thursday against Lafayette). They are now starting to win some of the close ones. If they can integrated Moses back in, they will give Scott County a good fight next week in District Play. Aaron Boyd and Victor Moses got their McDonalds all American nomination awards tonight. 2500 kids are nominated each year from across the county. I think Setty and Darius got theirs Saturday night. Good to see some KY kids getting some attention.
  16. Saw Pineville in the All-A last week. Very good team.
  17. Richie Phares has a career night with 34. Henry Clay still without their big man Moses, had trouble stopping Phares inside. He had several very nice reverse layups, and some outside shots, including a 3. Guyn the Sophomore also added in 16 for the cards. Henry Clay was down 23 in the 3rd. Went on a 20-7 run. Were only down 4 with about 3 minutes to go. Then Scott went on a mini-run to end the game. HC scoring : Stewart 20 Nichols 19 Boyd 16 Wilder 12 Gordon 6 Gardner 6
  18. Yes the refs decided this one for Madison Central. Rebound coming off and everyone scrambling, and they make a call with .3 on the clock. Of course Morris and the other big kid for MC had been going over the back all night and rarely getting called. Twice the big kid went over Boyd's back in the 2nd half, and knocked him down and then out of bounds. No call. Another time, MC knocked Boyd out of bounds on a fast break, and caused a turnover. No call. The refs definitely let Feldhaus influence their decision making in a lot of games I have seen MC play. He can complain more than any coach I have seen and not get a technical. He complains even when he get a call. Too bad the refs decided to make a call like that, after letting a lot worse go throughout the game.
  19. A couple of other good teams I have been impressed with this year is Lincoln County and Adair County.
  20. Tates Creek up 13 early. HC fought back to get to 8 at the half. Close through the 3rd until mid-way of the 4th. Game was tied at 50-50 with about 3 minutes to go. Tates Creek went on a 15-5 run to end the game. Sparks hit several 3 pointers, especially early to give Tates Creek a 13 point lead. In fact, he got his 1500th career point tonight. Henry Clay had Boyd back, but Moses still out. Also, another starter Brian Nichols was out, and a key reserve, DQ Gordon.
  21. Yes, it has been tough for Henry Clay again this year. Loosing your best player two years in a row. Glad to see some of the other players coming around and taking up some of the slack. Hopefully Boyd will be back this weekend for the Tates Creek game. Just a killer district with Scott County and Bryan Station.
