KJ-or Kayla Johnson the smart smooth guard for Phelps has a signing date of May 13th to play for Wise Va.Her decision was influenced by coach Devin the assistant coach who also played at Wise.

There is no doubt he is the coach.

Does anyone know how Johnson Central girls done against Shelby Valley?

Being a Mister Basketball in Kentucky and winning the sweet 16 is some great credentials.But I dont mean to keep saying this but this is a good team with a good coach.I have a deep respect for Pike Central players but Phelps never gets looked at or talked about in any manner of respect.The Johnson girl and the Riley girl are AAU standouts.They both have played a lot of ball and are as good as any I have seen.Both have played in Ky. and Va. state tournaments in AAU and are just 2 of the best kids you could imagine and simply do not want to be anything but TEAM PLAYERS and this is the greatest fault with these 2 ladies in that they pass up shots trying to be unselfish to a fault. Also The Keen girl and Jasmine Hall are just all around super players.The other 2 ladies who get the bulk of the load of play/work are also coming along to be tough as you will find.Thier names are Wolford and McGuire and one is a Sophmore and one is a Junior so they will be back next year along with Riley and Jasmine Hall.

The first game Phelps and Pike Central played was a good one also.The final score does not reflect the type of game the first game of the season really was.Phelps has a very good team but no depth and very young players off the bench.They can be a dangerous team in the tournament as these young ladies know the game and play good together as long as they stay out of foul trouble.Last night they had 2 starters foul out and one starter sat out much of the game in foul trouble for much of the game.Phelps is one of the smallest schools left and it is quite difficult to have a team.To win this one was a big game for Phelps.

Thank you for the information.Would it be too far fetched to think that if the number is based on the top 3 grades that only the top 3 grades would be allowed to play.ALSO IS IT A RULE THAT IF A STUDENT IS IN ALTERNATIVE SCHOOL OR CLASSES THAT NUMBER IS TAKEN OFF THE SCHOOLS NUMBER OF STUDENTS?Thanks in advance.okiefan

What are the rules for the all A basketball tournament as far as how many students in the school and does anyone else think there were some rather large schools in the all A?

Could someone explain the rules for schools being in the all A or single A tournament.Seems like it would be awful unfair to the smaller schools if there was a way to manipulate the rules or number of students in a school simply to win.The reason I mention the last statement is that someone told me that a school could possibly have some of their students in alternative school I think it is called and the number would go down and make that school eligible.This may not be true but as I watch some of these teams I just have a problem believing that one year you are A and then next year you are AA.There are some HUGE schools in this years single A but there is probably a logical explination.Thanks in advance for any help.

There are lots of choices in the 15th.The games are to be played at Phelps and not on paper but Paintsville has a great team.

Great post.My parents reward me for assists more than points.Seems like college basketball is more flash than basketball skill and it looks as though a lot of walks are not called in college ball so the player can look good doing a move that should not be attempted anyway.

I think we look at coaches as somehow being able to say and do to children what our parents would not do.I can only remember 1 coach I have had who did not curse and use bad language and try to make us feel bad about ourself and as I get older I realize that is the coach I still seek advice from even today.Does our math teachers have a right to curse us or tell us we suck at math when we do not do what the math teacher told us to do?Neither should our coaches have a right to say we suck or to curse us.WOULD THE COACHES SAY IN FRONT OF OUR PARENTS WHAT IS SAID IN THE CLOSED PRACTICES?I think the new coach at Phelps is a good example as I watched the games we have played this year he is such a contrast to the other coaches who yell and jump and curse.Everyone is playing better and enjoying it more and I am sure most coaches are going to slip up sometimes but if they have the players at heart surley they would not say they suck.
