okiefan
Could someone explain the rules for schools being in the all A or single A tournament.Seems like it would be awful unfair to the smaller schools if there was a way to manipulate the rules or number of students in a school simply to win.The reason I mention the last statement is that someone told me that a school could possibly have some of their students in alternative school I think it is called and the number would go down and make that school eligible. This may not be true but as I watch some of these teams I just have a problem believing that one year you are A and then next year you are AA.There are some HUGE schools in this years single A but there is probably a logical explination. Thanks in advance for any help. Tough as Nails
There must be less than 425 students in the school for grades 10-12 (the old classification for class A football when the All A Classic was started).
Lunatic1
Why would any school count kids that were not enrolled in their school? I think the rule right now is 425 in grades 10, 11, and 12. It will change next year to a count for all 4 grades. I am not sure what "big" schools are in it but they must meet those guidelines per Touchstone rules. It is the straight enrollment at their school.
madman
I believe next year the tournament will be for the 125 smallest schools based on enrollment.
Mr. Athletics
I believe next year the tournament will be for the 125 smallest schools based on enrollment. You are correct, Madman. The 8th region will have 8 teams next year adding Owen and Henry to go along with Gallatin, Eminence, Williamstown, Carroll, Walton Verona and Trimble. DerbyCity
How many total KHSAA schools are there? I hope the new 125 school rule does not turn this in to an all-AA format. It's bad enough with the likes of Lexington Christian in the All-A.

Where can you find information on the Class A rules? Below is a link of the current two year average enrollments of schools. http://www.khsaa.org/reports/2006and2007averanegschoolenrollmentbyenroll.pdf Lexington Christian is still one of the 100 smallest, so even though they are tough, they are not even skirting the line. The interesting thing looking at the list is that if it becomes the smallest 125, Notre Dame and Christian Acadmey of Louisville will be eligible with close to 600 students. It really seems like the cutoff should be 400 or less or there abouts. It's great looking on the list and seeing the real small schools that work hard and compete with some of the best teams. For schools like Notre Dame, CovCath, etc. that have just boys or girls they double the enrollment to determine if you are eligible So there is no way Notre Dame would ever be eligible.
