  1. My vacation, the first in 8 years, was really for my parents (80 & 81). They are having touble traveling now, and Mrs. S and I decided that they needed to see the family one more time before they would be unable to travel. While on this trip I decided to try and meet some of my friends here on BGP since I would be in the area. I also found that I could see 2 of the most successful programs in the state while on this trip.

My week of BGP sight-seeing ended with the game Friday night. It started a week earlier with a lunch time meeting with theguru and h.s.sportsrbest, then I got to help Ru and his gang at the Highlands/Ryle game.

Wednesday - Mrs. S, my cousin, her husband, and I met Birdsfan and got to sample the cuisine at the Montgomery Inn Boat House.

Thursday - Ru and I met again for lunch. Later, Birdsfan and Run To State met up with my clan at the Hofbrauhaus for some German refreshment.

Finally, the BG/Trinity game Friday night, where I got to introduce Mrs. S to rockmom as well as peprock, and "friend", GetSlow, and the Hazes. BF was right there as well. (That's 3 nights in a row, guy. People may start talking.) If I didn't say it enough Friday night, I think your folks are great. And folks, BF is all that and a bag of chips in person.

PurpleHaze and Mrs. PurpleHaze, it was an honor to finally met you in person. We have talked several times on the phone, but to meet you two is truly something special.

Finally, I want to thank the fans at Ryle and Trinity for their hospitality. By the way, Marshall Stadium is one of the nicest high school stadiums I have ever been in.

  2. Continental is really, thorough. I found that after taking off from Tampa one time when the pilot told us we had a radio problem, turned the plane around, and proceeded to Orlando International Airport. However, before landing he also told us not to worry about the emergency vehicles lining the runway as we came in. I thought, "Wow! All this for a radio problem." :thumb: :scared:

They also stock the good stuff on the replacement flight.

  3. I believe I have been to every county, except for Menifee, Morgan, Johnson, Martin, and I am not sure about McCreary and Todd. What are the county seats and burgs in McCreary and Todd?

As far as going to, when I was in college I passed through Livingston County on my way over the river, and stopped at a roadside diner that had absolutely the finest pie that I have ever eaten. I had a piece of key lime, a piece of lemon, and a piece of real blueberry, and about four glasses of lemonade.

Have you been to Cumberland Falls? If memory serves me right, the county seat of McCreary County is Whitley City.
  4. Forget the chili dogs - go to Montgomery Inn and get some great ribs. They serve Greater's Ice Cream there so you don't have to go anywhere else... but the choices are limited - I recommend the choc. chip - and have a contest to see who gets the biggest chip. They often cover the entire spoon.

I haven't been there in a while, but the Gatehouse Tavern (connected to the Drawbridge Inn off the Crescent Springs exit) has a great Prime Rib and a huge salad bar.

The Oriental Wok (also off the Crescent Springs exit) has a great Sunday buffet - and there is a Greater's Ice Cream next door.

For the best view make reservations at the restaurant at the top of the Quality Inn - it has a revolving floor so as you eat you spin slowly around seeing the skyline from every angle.

For smaller meals - LaRosa's Pizza or a 3-way and a Chili Dog from any Gold Star will suffice.

That's the place I couldn't remember that everybody raves about. The Montgomery Inn. I eat a lot of Skeeter's Smokehouse BBQ, and I have yet to have ribs better than his. I'm salivating and it's still 2 weeks away.

  5. The Rat Clan is invading NKY/Cincinnati here in a few weeks and I thought Mrs. S and I could eat are way around the area as a form of recreation. :D

Philly has its Cheese Steak, Pittsburgh has that beef sandwich that has frenchfries and gravy on it. Chicago has their pizza and Vienna hot dogs. What constitutes Northern Kentucky or Cincinnati cuisine. I know Cincinnati is famous for it's chili and spaghetti, but what else is there?
