Boyle County 49 Covington Catholic 14
CovCath not getting a TD in the first half was the turning point. Get that touchdown and it is a completely different game. Congrats to Boyle. I like a game plan of run it until they stop it. In this game, the Colonels never did. Who Ya With!

In fairness, if Boyle had won at JC last week and was coming to Park Hills this week, I would have picked CovCath. ?

Longtime Ashland Broadcaster Dicky Martin has passed
Dicky was a homer, but also a great play by play guy.

Covington Catholic 28 Trinity 13 (Frosh)
At least 1999 was a good game. Fun night in Lexington afterwards too. And hanging out at Checks pregame in either 07 or 08 (whichever year the game was in Louisville was a good time too.

QB went down late second quarter if I'm remembering correctly. The offensive play calls weren't much different after he went out, maybe a few less passes over the middle (but they seemed to like to work the flats anyway). The game plan looked to me to get the running game started and let the defense get after CovCath to create turnovers or field position. The Irish offense hasn't been overly efficient this year, scoring a combined total of 14 against Ben Davis, Brownsburg, and Cincy X. Even in the massive 21 - 15 upset over Center Grove, 7 of the points were the result of a fumble recovery in the endzone. I will say, the Irish are a team you do not want to go down double digits against and allow them to get the blitz packages going.

Why did you include Hoban in the list?

Elder (OH) 40 Highlands 16
Ohio is absolutely better and deeper. Most of that is a function of state populations and some of it is Ohio has always been a football state. But in the case of this Highlands - Elder matchup, I'm not understanding the free pass being given of "well it's Ohio football vs. Kentucky football". Highlands was the underdog, but I would have expected this game to have been more competitive.

Elder (OH) 40 Highlands 16
I'm not understanding the Ohio football is just different/better comments in this instance. Elder beat Louisville Saint X 26 - 24. Boyle beat X 14 - 3 and Highlands went toe to toe with Boyle (should have won?). Elder beat CovCath 28 - 20 and Highlands beat CovCath. Not saying Highlands should have won this game, but game should have been more competitive than 40 - 16?

The good news for Colonel fans is they seem to be settling into an offensive identity. The defensive adjustments also seem to be have taken hold. Special team adjustments need to be made, but the team has the potential to turn some heads in the postseason.

For as good as Cathedral’s defense was (multiple fronts, shifting out of looks right before the snap, and the occasional defensive back blitz), the offense seemed pretty vanilla. Kept waiting for adjustments that didn’t seem to be made until late in the fourth.

Considering neither team dented the scoreboard, that was a very entertaining half of football.
