Anyone who thinks only 16 year olds are playing at the sophomore level is looking at sports with tunnel vision.

Yeah, John Fraley at Pulaski and Baker at SW are the only names I am hearing now.

All I am hearing on the SW opening is asst coach Chris Baker's name.

As ky playmaker said, Stephen Fitzgerald and Danny Butt are Chris Fitzgerald's nephews. Cooper was the assistant coach at SW when Dave Shultz was coaching (before Coach Wright). He was head coach at Garrard County for one year 2011-2012. He came back to Pulaski County after that and has been coaching youth AAU.

Hiring Chris Fitzgerald would obviously keep 2 at SW.

Al Gover, Chris Fitzgerald, and Brandon Cooper are names I'm hearing thrown around. I'm sure there will be many other names soon.

Brad went to SHS his freshman year in 1990 then transferred to PC. Al and Greg both went to SHS. Both are in the 1000 point club. Al was the all time leading scorer at SHS until a guy named Cromer beat his record in 1990.

Greg Gover is Taylor Gover's dad. Greg, Al, and Brad are all brothers. Taylor went to Somerset and left before his freshman year to go to Pulaski where his uncle Al Gover got the high school job. He spent all 4 years at Pulaski, graduated in 2013 and is playing at The University of the Cumberlands. Greg Gover runs the Fellowship of Christian Athletes in the South Central Kentucky Area. You will not meet a nicer man than him.

No, Peyton Gover has never played at Somerset. He was at Northern in middle School, Pulaski County through his freshman year, then his dad was let go as head coach and he went to Southwestern.

I assume they would have to establish a new address. All talk is of them going to Pulaski County. I don't know if Gover leaves. If he does it sounds like he would go to Wayne County.

Fitzgerald and Butt are planning on leaving. If there happens to be a change at Southwestern then they may reconsider.

Stallworth's name was mentioned to me 2 days ago when the job opened. A friend said "If Pulaski were smart they would get that Casey County coach." I guess that option is now possible. Good coaches across the state will be putting in for this one it looks like.

Shannon is in charge of the middle school program at Northern. He would also sit on the bench for Pulaski during games as an assistant. John is the assistant at SW and works only with the high school. He was in charge of the Northern Middle School program before Wright picked him up as an assistant in 2011-2012. Shannon would make a great head coach but I think it works better for him to be an assistant and I think that would be his choice at this time. I could be wrong though. John would also make a good head coach and I think he is in the position to take the Pulaski job with his brother as the assistant.

On Monday, Voight found out he would not be brought back next year as the Maroons’ boys basketball head coach. Pulaski County High School principal Rodney McAninch stated that he wanted the Maroons’ boys basketball program to take a different direction. “As an administrative team, myself and athletic director Brian Miller, we review the performances of each athletic program at the end of the year,” McAninch stated. “In regards to Coach (Jimmy) Voight and the boys basketball program, we decided we were going to go in a different direction and go ahead and seek a different coach for the team. I feel like this is the most prudent course to take at this time.” “I am sure Coach Voight will do well where ever he goes in the future,” McAninch said. “He is a good man, has done a good job for us, and he has done everything we have asked him to do in the classroom. But in the terms of the overall position of the program, we have chose to take it in a different direction.” Voight compiled a 35-25 record in two seasons at the helm of the Pulaski boys basketball program. Last year, the Maroons ended the season with a 19-12 mark and captured the 47th District crown – making it six in a row after former Pulaski coach Al Gover won five district crowns in a row before his departure from the Maroons’ boys’ basketball coaching position. After winning 10 of their first 14 games of the season this past winter, the Maroons closed out the season losing 9 of their final 15 games. The Maroons lost their last three games of the year, which included a first round season-ending elimination in the 47th District Tournament. Voight has accumulated 478 wins in nearly 33 years of coaching at both the high school level and the collegiate level. Voight is only the fifth boys basketball coach at Pulaski County High School in nearly a 40-year span. Dave Fraley coached the Maroons from 1977 to 1995, Dave Schulz went from 1995 to 1996, Al Gover from 1996 to 2001, Fraley again from 2001 to 2006, Mark Flynn from 2006 to 2009, and then Gover again from 2009 to 2014. Pulaski will now be on the hunt for potentially their sixth coach in a period of five decades. “I will be asking our athletic director Brian Miller to create a hiring committee after that job opening as been posted, and then we will look at all the applicants and make a determination on who the best next candidate might be to take that position,” McAninch stated. The job opening is usually posted for at least 30 days before the hiring process begins. In the Maroons’ last boys basketball coaching change from Gover to Voight in 2014, the total process took exactly five weeks.

It is now official per Commonwealth Journal reporter Steve Cornelius. Voight has been let go at Pulaski County.

If I'm correct on the dates, Pulaski won 19 district titles (47th/48th District), 4 12th Region titles (79, 84, 86, 92), 6 games in the state tournament, and won state in 1986. That would give them 50 points if the formula is: District=1, Region=2, Wins at state=3, State Champions=5. Somerset had 54 points doing it this way. So if Somerset was 66th, then Pulaski would be in the 67-75 range just guessing.
