Maybe CC rested all their starters since they are the number 1 seed. Good game by Boone.

Not that it matters, but I just watched the highlights on Channel 19. Elder's qb knee was down on that first touchdown to tie the game. And by the highlights you would have thought Highlands lost. They showed 2 Elder td's and 4th down stop by Elder. No bird highlights at all.

Trying to run up the score

I believe someone pointed out in "the pit" thread, the Massey ratings had the Birds winning 34-32. That was a pretty good prediction.
-
The headline on nky.com at the top says Highlands lost at Elder. They may want to update that. Maybe an Elder grad?
-
Always sad to hear. Hopefully, he will be ok.

Nice win. It looks like the birds need to work on their punting game. Hopefully Towles will be back next week. Elder had a lot of breaks and the birds still pull it out with a back up quarterback. Overall, great effort by the birds.
-
This is a below average Elder team and had Towles played the whole game I suspect it would be different.
Not sure, Mccoy played pretty good. It's come down to the punt team to me.
-
Has Highlands punted at all this year? I feel bad for the long snapper, not much practice I guess with the blowouts.
-
Highlands should have taken the safety on the bad punt. This is not looking good.

I didn't get to see the show, but I saw today where his son and him are no longer talking again. I guess this was recorded in May and the reunion only lasted about a month. The son said Scott Hall was still using drugs and abusive, so he decided to distance himself from him again. Truly a sad situation.

I would say the number one reason Football is popular is the gambling. And I agree Superbowl and NCAA basketball finals need to be on a Saturday night. I have to take the Monday after Superbowl every year.

So you do remember the old tearaway jersey days. David Cecil Memorial stadium playing surface was littered with Red globs of cloth the last time these two teams played at Highlands. LOL
Was Haywood the coach then?
I am not sure it was the last time Belfry played at Highlands. I remember an 89 OT playoff game where Belfry ran it down the birds throat. Birds were fortunate to get out of that one. Congrats to Haywood, well deserved and a class coach.

Not sure if it was a mistake or not, but during the pregame earlier this season, the PA announcer referred to Dale as the "Activities Director." I turned to my wife and asked, "Does that mean he's over the Chess Club?"
I always thought there were two titles. I thought it was one of the ways to pay a coach more money. They used to pay for everything they did like 60 minute club, etc, not sure any more.

 I'm a geek. And, shame-faced. I misspelled evidentiary!
No need to apologize, I would have taken the first spelling because I had no idea.

The Thanksgiving day playoff game with Bell County was memorable.

I do not think the game could be insured and the KHSAA would go bonkers. I think that the Top Team in the country for high school teams is somewhat mythical. Is it THAT important that Trinity be ranked no 1? Trinity is ranked no 2 in the country. No team from Kentucky has ever reached that plateau. Let's be pleased with what has been accomplished. Beat Moeller.
Noboby ever remembers No. 2 so it IS that important to be No. 1. If they end up No. 2, that would be great but wouldn't you love to say you played a game for No. 1. That would be cool.

:thumb:Actually its not funny. Littleluck described Tom S to a tee. A good guy, who cares about the kids and is passionate, maybe he is a little soft, who really cares, as an assistant I think you can get away with this type of thing but as a Head Coach it doesnt cut it. At the end of the day though I honestly wished Tom success, not against Highlands, but against everyone else.I do know that the last few yrs have been painful to watch as an outsider so I can only imagine whats going on over at Dixie.
Well, even if Tom doesnt return next yr and despite the few bad yrs he encountered he will still leave Dixie a better place then when he arrived. That he should be proud of.

I went to a basketball game and the opposing team chanted "27-14." Referring to the football score that, get this, they lost. They were happy to only lose by 13. I can remember a Highlands chant "We got big Cox" referring to Highlands center Marvin Cox at the time. And there were some pretty indecent NCC cheers.

Didn't know that the Cougars won a title then, I was six years old at that time and always lived in the Campbell County. Is that Conner's only state title or did they win any other times?
I believe this is their only title and Highlands was undefeated going into the game trying to win their 3rd state title. According to highlands-bluebirds.com, Conner has beaten Highlands twice: 1983 and 1993.
-
I remember that game very well. George Duvall was the runningback for Conner and may be one of the best runningbacks they ever had or will have. I remember that they ended up losing to Cov Cath, but if I remember right, it was a pretty close game. That season was likely one of Conner's best ever that I am aware of.
Very good team but their best team would have to be their 1983 state championship team that stopped Highlands from back to back to back.

Let me guess who started this thread? Brady very nice player that is a very good athlete and would help any team at multiple positions but not top 5 player in the state. Lets keep our perspective people.
Who would be your top 5 seniors for Mr. Football?

Was this the team coached by Tom Duffy with Tom Spritzky as an assistant?
Yes it was and I can tell you, when we were doing the county fair, everyone loved getting to Spritzky's station because it was a breather for us.

I would say men gymnasts are very good athletes too, but I sure do not want to watch. To each his own I guess.
