Who will win Mr. Basketball in 2015
Whatever It Takes replied to Randy Parker's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Of all the comments made on this thread, this (and the one about JP's Ballard team beating McDonald's) has to be the one holding the least amount of credibility. To be honest, I applaud McDonald's choice of NKU. He chose the best fit for him and didn't get caught up in going to the "biggest" or "most reputable in terms of basketball programs." -

Not at all. They played 7 consistently all weekend. The bench is getting stronger and more confident every game. Erik Anderson just started playing afyer coming back from football. Brian Anderson is still out w an ankle injury. He will provide more defense and depth. McDonald and Weyer can run with the best of the post players. I'm sure the players are tired of hearing about "lack of depth". I'd rather be 7-8 solid and strong than 10 average but deep. -

Who said NewCath lost "only bc of the refs?" I'd take a loss in December for two wins in March any time. This game meant nothing. I was simply stating a fact. -

Doss did cut into the lead. But it was foul shot after foul shot. It's incredible the number of fouls called on NewCath in the 1st half -

McDonald had 13. Weyer had 9. I don't think the bigs were te problem. -

Why would you not want to play a game like that in a tournament such as LexCath? That's the purpose of the tournament. -

I thought the refs called a pretty good game. Consistent, got up and down the court w the players, in the right spot to make calls. No one will ever agree w every call, however I thought they were good. -
Sshall - to say a sophomore player isn't "getting the job done" after his first game is a little over the top. JV is for developing players so they are ready to play at the next level, varsity ball. Wurtz has some work to do, as do all the kids on NewCath's JV and freshman teams. Chemistry will come as the players learn to play with each other. You can't dismiss sophomores just bc you want the kids who have been playing together for years, and already have team chemistry, to continue playing with only those with whom they grew up. If that was the case very few teams would even be able to field a varsity team bc there aren't enough kids in their class. The beauty of high school is meeting new people and new challenges, Learning to play off of each others strengths and weaknesses and coming together as a team. As far as pitting the varsity players against each other, you're treading dangerous waters. This team is extremely close and will not allow outside influences to affect their season. Ben is very good. Drew is very good. Independently, they would be very good on any given team. Collectively they will be great together.

How can you suggest NewCath doesn't have as much room to grow as Dixie? If these talented players don't continue to learn and get better, those who play college will never see the floor and the underclassmen are in for a long high school career. I beg to differ. There is always room to continue to improve. It's just that NewCath is starting ahead of Dixie in December and will hopefully still be ahead in March, with both teams improving.

Why Are We Obsessed Over Dunks?
Whatever It Takes replied to Clyde's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
At the end of the day a dunk is still worth 2pts. Are they exciting, sure. I get more hype out of a great pass than I do a dunk. -
NewCath isn't a 3 player team. There is SO much more to basketball than scoring points. Grant Moeves made some nice passes and played good defense. Not everyone on a great team is going to score 15-20 points. The best part of NewCath's team is that they have all the pieces. Pangallo can handle the ball and score. Ben Weyer can score and rebound. Grant Moeves can distribute and has a great shot. Drew McDonald can score anywhere, handle the ball, rebound and is a great passer. They all play solid team defense. Brian Anderson had a really nice game. Seth Freppon is one of their best defenders and knows how to rebound. Once Erik Anderson joins the team they will be even stronger. Some people just put way too much stock in scoring.

Who are the seniors on Scott's team this year? -
33rd District winner - Ryle or Cooper?

Was this district seeded or a blind draw? -
You do mean Assumption/SHA or the 9th region team are out after the 1st round, didn't you? Or did they cancel the regional tournament this year? Please inform me if they did. I was hoping to catch a few games.
