If a 7 footer with Wilt's skill doesn't get 25 rebounds against a 6'7" defender then he should be cut or traded. Not impressed.

 

Bill Russell is considered one of the best defenders of all time. Wilt played 142 games vs Russell and in those games averaged 29 points and 29 boards. He tallied 50 points seven times during those matchups with a high of 62. During his last year he actually scored in single digits twice which would pull down those stats a tiny bit.

He averaged 27 rebounds that year.

 

Makes his 25 rebounds against 6'7" even worse.

While that night he may have been guarded by 6'7" guy, there some good centers during those years.

 

Guy named Bill Russell was pretty good. Nate Thurmond, Wayne Embry, Willis Reed all very good players.

 

Quality of big men today, not sure they exceed quality then.

 

Btw, 6' 7" Wes Unseld would whip up on most centers today.

 

 

And I would still expect Wilt to out rebound 6'7" Wes Unseld also.

So since he did that against Bill Russell why wouldn't he score 100 points and get 25 rebounds against a back up 6'7" center.

Like I said earlier I am more impressed that he averaged 50 points a game that season than the fact he scored 100 in a game. The 50 point/game average is more impressive than Kobe's 81 point game but I am more impressed wih Kobe's 81 point game than Wilt's 100 point game.
