Conner Lady Cougars

In girls b-ball at most schools if you're a really good frosh or soph you're playing varsity. At some other schools you're playing frosh or JV. Those schools then have the obvious advantage in the frosh/JV tourney. Secondly, frosh ball only represents one class. If high school b-ball was limited to one grade/class then you might have an argument.

Are u out there BGH? (and BGH defenders?) Same point I was making months ago when we were getting non-stop reports on BBHS winning Frosh and JV championships. Celebrate your wins, and be proud of your Frosh and JV championships, but it doesn't guarantee success at the Varsity level later.

Clyde lets take Boone Co as a example. They graduate starters Moss, Zuri Hill, Lydia Nash and E Switzer. 4 of there 5 starters. Who replaces them this coming season? Ford, Knots, Popp, Mullins, Mcqueary, Murphy take your pick. All of them were on varsity last season and got varsity minutes. But they played JV they started JV. Now Boone county's JV is Varsity. So how can you say you dont put much stock in it. And i am not talking about freshman teams.

OK. Let's limit it to JV.

Did Boone girls win the JV tourney?

No Boone did not win JV tourney this past season. New Cath won

No Boone did not win JV tourney this past season. New Cath won

OK. Then Boone doesn't really fit into my argument then.

Let's be clear. I'm not saying JV experience does not translate into success. I'm saying you cannot use championships won at sub-varsity levels as an indicator of future success.

Let's say that Ryle did not win the JV tourney in 2009 or 2010. If we were using JV championships as a measuring stick we would not be able to see that Ryle was going to be really good at the varsity level in 2011 and 2012 when their 4-year varsity players finished up.

That's my point.

Here's my point Coach Stamm is a better coach than he gets credit for. The Lady Cougars are going to be a very tough team to beat this coming season if they can stay healthy. They have some strong returning players and some very talented younger players. Boone and Ryle are not going to be the dominate teams they have been over the last couple of years.

I think Coach Stamm gets lavished with praise on here!

I think he is a good coach, but not great yet, as other coaches have had more success than him. If the other teams in his program are playing for regional titles maybe they are the ones who should be praised???

I think Coach Coburn at St. Henry is a good coach and his team is in the region tournament every year with so so talent.

Weak district. St. Henry better get out of that district every year. Getting to the Regional is not that big a deal from the 34th. Put St. Henry back in the 33rd and they are the 4th best team. St. Henry is counting their blessings every day that they were moved out of the 33rd in every sport.

I know for a FACT that you're smarter than the way the above comes across.

I read it as you saying Coach Coburn (a good coach) should get more praise because he makes the region tourney than Coach Stamm (another good coach) does because he didn't make the region. I don't believe you believe that for a second.

I think Coach Stamm receives the recognition he deserves on here. He did a very nice job with the Ludlow program making a couple of trips to the regional and winning several DIII Titles. I think Coach Stamm would be the 1st to tell you that there is still alot more for him and for his team to accomplish at Conner such as winning in a very difficult district and performing well in the Regional tournament. It is nice to see some of the younger girls who in the past may have transfered to say Ryle or Boone Cty now wanting to stay at Conner. I think this is a result of the efforts of Coach Stamm and it should pay dividends in the very near future for the Conner program.

You make a good point about girls not leaving Hebron. NDA/Boone/Walton have picked up talented players from Hebron over the years. He seems like a coach who the girls like playing for. That goes for his entire staff as well.

Your right...success at freshmen and JV levels does not guarantee success. In fact, nothing can guarantee success. In the thread your referring to, I don't think anyone, specifically myself, said anything about freshmen success and championships guaranteeing success.

We can agree that it doesn't translate to guaranteed success, however, do you think it means anything at all? Is the quality and accomplishment of a freshmen and /or JV team totally and completely useless to the future and what the varsity can become?

No.

You have to look at the districts st henry is not in that strong of one get real

I agree with that, and it is funny that is the district where Stamm came from.....the district he is in now is stronger and he hasn't taken the Lady Cougars to the region despite the JV team making the region finals two years in a row according to reports on BGP.

When do they make it this year? If they continue to not make it, when does it go from doing a great job to a marage?
