Not going to argue over who is the top point guard in NKy. Although I don't believe it's Moss. But for what it's worth, Clark shredded Walton earlier this season shortly after leading the Pandas to the soccer state championship. I have not seen Gayheart play, Cheeseman is a fine player.

I get what everyone is saying but Clark gets it done with pure athleticism. Last season I was so impressed with Cheesemans ability to get it done but this year she has been hampered with injury and honestly the game I attended she just didn't get a lot of minutes. Gayheart I have seen in one game in total career so it is hard to say she is the best. She did impress me on that game I watched.

 

All in all, they are all in that upper echelon of guards.

No not confused. Just amazed that you would try to enter Sydney into this discussion. While Sydney is a great player and I understand your enthusiasm she's not a contender for Best Point Guard in NKY.

First off Sydney does not play point guard on a routine basis. She does play it at times and plays it very, very well. If she played there as her normal position I think she would be the best. I've seen her (and I obviously have the advantage of seeing her every game) make passes that no other guard in NKY, and very few in the country could make...........half the length of the floor, through traffic, pin point on target to a streaking teammate. She runs the offense as it is supposed to be run and gets it to the open player at the right time. Of course when she is there it reduces her effectiveness as a scorer because she becomes a distributor first, scorer second.

 

She has great court vision, a key for a truly effective point guard. She handles the ball very well and is strong enough to protect it against defenders. Her quickness is much better than one might think and her strength in firing passes with either hand is unmatched in NKY.

 

Point guard? No she isn't. Could she be? Without a doubt and her ability to handle the ball in traffic and find open teammates will be one of her strengths in college. From what I can find in researching available stats Sydney may well lead NKY in assists per game at 4.4. And I'm betting her assist to turnover ratio of 1.91/1 is probably the best among point guards in NKY as well.

 

Again, I agree she probably sghouldn't be in the discussion because she isn't a point guard by definition. But for anyone to dismiss her as though she can't/couldn't play there says they haven't seen her play the point as she has more than ever this season.

 

By the way, Boone played St. Henry on Tuesday and I was impressed by St. Henry's Annie Fugate at the point. She showed all the characteristics I think one would want in a point guard. So I'll throw her name in the mix since the original question asked "Who are some of the better Point Guards in NKY and why?"

I have not seen Moss play point guard, but she does have great vision and passing skills (very important for the position).

I don't think anyone diminishes Syd's ability to do anything having to do with basketball. The young lady is AWESOME BABY!

I don't disagree with you at all about Sydney's ability. She is a very versitle and can do so many things well. So please don't take my comments that she shouldn't be considered as dismissing her ability. One point of contention I would have is that Gayheart is a prolific passer as well and IMO see's the floor and passes the ball as good or better than anyone in the state. Both players are very enjoyable to watch and I just consider myself fortunate to be able to watch them.

Moss is a Great basketball player! I think that says it all!

In 2012 the best PG I have watched is Abby Owens (SK) followed by Chandler Clark (ND). Castleberry from Conner can be very good. You have to love the drive of the Walton point Guard, Ginn? NCC point is very athletic.

 

I agree. They also have a girl that is the first one to come off the varsity bench that is very good and will be one of the best point guards in the future. I was told that she is a freshman. Their current starter I believe is a senior and is very good also. By the way, love the Ginn girl from Walton. She is truly an outstanding athlete.

I'm really glad this thread picked up some steam. As I stated earlier, the point guards work very hard with little or no recognition. I am really going to miss the astute observations that we all share on BGP (or as a friend of mine who played for Nell at Boone County calls us "a bunch of fat old men bragging about their children and grandchildren" which hits the nail on the head for me)! Good luck to all of the teams in the postseason and most importantly I hope all of the players stay healthy!!

Gotcha! Didn't mean (perhaps my wording wasn't the best) that you were dismissing her ability. My main point is that she has played more point this year and probably not a lot have seen that.

Really didn't mean to start a geographical debate but for the record Owen County is served by the NORTHERN Ky Area Development District along with Grant, Pendleton, Carroll, Gallatin and the big 3 previously mentioned so I will continue to consider them NKY counties. (and imo Gayheart is the best point guard in those 8 counties and Moss is the best over all player of the teams I have seen play.)

If it is taking you a tank of gas to get to Owenton from "NKY" you need a new vehicle. Lots of Owen Countians make the drive daily for work and believe it or not some residents of what you call NKY drive to Owen County for employment.
