It looks like their best win was against a 13-17 Williamstown . Quite a few 10-run losses.

Not sure where the NDA came from, but if NDA beat Holmes and Holy Cross, then I guess you give them the nod unless something has changed. The entire district is young, has new coaches and did not really have good years last year. Do any of the 4 teams deserve to be top 10? This is a weak Region and explains why Ryle travels so much.

I really like Beechwood as an up and coming team. Their team had alot of room for improvement over the years and I thought they really started to look decent last year. Their coaches are definitely into it! Ryle is still the best with overall 1-9 players on the field. Conner will be good, but maybe somewhat less than last year. I believe Ryle can be taken down by either St.Henry or Boone. This is by far the best year for both of those schools to have a shot at taking the region.

Welcome to BGP Wonderboy. I agree with your comments which is why I picked Boone and St. Henry as #s 1 & 2. Both Boone and St. Henry did not loose anyone from last years teams and Ryle and Conner both lost their two best players IMO. Additionally I believe Boone beat Conner twice last year. All four teams will be very good and could beat each other on any given day. They should definitely be the best four teams in the 9th, but keep an eye on Dixie. They have a nice team and a very good young pitcher.

I would take Beechwood's asst coach over in coach in the area so I am sure they are going to be improved if she stuck around. She played at Northwestern and is from the Chicago area were there is a ton of softball being played. I can't remember her name though. Their head coach is pretty good also.

First of all let me say I think the Beechwood assistant coach is very good. Have met her and seen her coach a few times, and she is very energetic and has a wealth of knowledge about the game.

 

Let me also say that I agree with both of you on your points about the problem with fastpitch softball in NKY. However, while many of the coaches are not the best and most knowledgable about the game, I think nkysoftball is right on the mark with the recreation programs and summer leagues. The summer leagues in Campbell and Kenton County are to say the least very weak. And to think some of the parents and coaches in these counties and rec leagues still want to play slow pitch. Unbelievable. The coaching definitely needs to improve, most do not have much experience coaching fastpitch and coach it like baseball. But mostly the summer leagues need to get better, much better. Boone County has a pretty good summer league I believe, which is one reason why all the Boone County high schools have better teams.

The facilities are awful and in comparison to other recreation leagues it has become extremely expensive. The county needs to pitch in some money, it seems everywhere else you go the county does a much better job supporting softball.

Fast pitch is still new to NKY so the players and coaches still have a lot to learn at the high school and summer level. There is also a lot of turnover among NKY fast pitch softball coaches for various reasons, but I think the "energy" is key. If you have a coach that puts forth a lot of time and energy with the kids at any level and can teach them the basics, then the strategies, etc. will come with experience. With that said, fast pitch softball is like baseball in almost every aspect with the main difference being pitching and the baserunning rules. Hitting, throwing, fielding, catching, fundamentals, etc. are almost identical to softball. Baseball coaches can make the switch - Persinger has done a good job with his program at Bracken after years of coaching baseball. Coach Gregg at WV coached baseball for years and the BGP blogs both rate them as quality coaches.

Wow that's really cool. It would be awesome if they had a summer high school league at NKU. Playing games on a college field would hopefully entice more girls to play. That would be really awesome. Hopefully there will be someone that is organized to run such a league and they can possibly keep the cost reasonable. What would they do then with the younger kids playing in the rec league?
