I think Bueter should be a 2 this year with Highchew at the 1. Have Pangallo be the back up 1 to Highchew (along with Bueter) this year. At least give him some quality time at the 1 this year. Any possibilty they don't want Pangallo to play this year because they are afraid he may take PT away from an upper classman?

 

What about the offense/defense substitution with 3:30 minutes left in the game last night? Did anyone think that was a bit early? Did NCC score the last 3 minutes?

What about Sr Tyler Shields? Junior Colin Dupont? I don't think its time to call up the freshman just yet.

 

Beuter is a fine PG, he just ran into extremely tough defense. He was being dogged all night, nobody on that roster could have done much else.

 

NCC will struggle against physical man-man defenses. They have nice length and size but 4/6 of those kids aren't bangers. They bring a ton of length with Ryan 6'4, Siebert 6'5, Schulte 6'5, McDonald 6'6, Morse 6'4 and Miller 6'1 but They got outrebounded last night and didn't appear to want the ball off the glass. A lot of one Shot and done. They should own the boards everytime out with that size imo. Teams would die to have that and two Good guards like Beuter and Hightchew.

 

Schulte is at least 6'7" if McDonald is 6'6", and I believe he is. He is a good inch or two taller. I like the Schulte kid but he needs to work on his hands and get a lot stronger.

Houliston is a sophomore but played like a veteran tonight. He has a knack for scoring the basketball. They have a nice soph group up There if They can keep them playing the next couple years. I also liked the way Nick True has been playing coming off the bench. Another 10th grader with a lot of upside is Brendan Buten. He came in and provided tenacious defense on Beuter all over the floor when New got in foul trouble.

 

Besides Houliston, heard Witte and Towles both played really well on both ends.

Great crowd up on the hill last night. I think everyone got their money's worth. I loved watching Patrick Towles' leadership on the court; not only with his points but with the way he talked to his teammates as well as the officials. Even though I'm a Bred now, I couldn't help but root for the Birds at the end and was heartbroken when Luke Turner lost the ball out of bounds with under 10 seconds left in the game. A three there would have tied the game and probably sent it into OT. As someone said on here recently, once a cake eater; always a cake eater!

I thought Miller did a great job on the boards last night. I also liked his aggressiveness on looking for his shot on the offensive end, both shooting the 3's and driving to the basket. I thought McDonald more than held his own with Towles. I thought Towles scored his points when McDonald was out. I thought NCC was two whistles slow in getting McDonald back in when Highlands brought Towles back in.

 

I just think Beuter should be the 2 and Hightchew should be the 1. Again, not a knock on either of them, I just think they should be flipped (Beuter is a nice spot up shooter and Hightchew likes to take the ball to the basket) and Pangallo should get some looks with varsity.

 

Miller was the only one I saw mixing it up. He is a Good leader for that team. McDonald May have pushed back but when Towles attacked the rim he couldn't stop him. Towles rebounded his own miss a few times as i recall.

I agree with about everything you say. Buetter struggles to get open for his shot when he always has the ball in his hands. Let Highchew handle and run Buetter off screens. The people that criticize Pangallo about his shooting are missing the reason he should at least get a look. He would play for his ballhandling, not his scoring. Just spot him to give the other 2 guards a little breather while they stay in the game. It is very obvious to me teams are just putting token pressure on Buetter all the time to wear him out. Maybe he can't do it, but if he never plays you won't know until next year.

I could be wrong but most box scores I see it seems he averages about 11-12 points. It didn't seem they made a real effort to get him the ball until late in the game. It isn't like Highlands lights it up from the outside, but like a lot of teams the outside players don't look inside enough.

I agree, Towles is the best player on Highlands and they need to do exactly as you stated. Theres not very many teams that are going to be able to stop him down low once he gets the ball. When Highlands made their run, he was the focal point. He needs to be the focal point of their offense more, in my opinion. He should be positioned on each low block and at the free throw line. Highlands offense should run through him. He should get a touch each time down the court if possible. If he doesn't have anything, then he can kick it out and the guards can jack up the three. He needs to be better utilized.

Nice win for NCC, and it sounds like Highlands is improving? Could be interesting come district time?

 

On another note, I can't remember reading a thread when the winning team's coaching is being criticized so much? Is this the same guy that many of the same folks voted one of the area's best in another recent thread?? :confused:
