January 11, 201214 yr My husband tried to raise chickens last year. The raccoons ate well that month. Epic fail. Can't wait to see him so I can bring this up!!!
January 11, 201214 yr I LOVE when a guy I work with brings in farm raised eggs. Better flavor!Totally. I get them from my Mamaw fairly often.
January 17, 201214 yr I keep between 25-30 laying hens, of standard size and of various breeds. We've also raised Cornish Rock X chickens for meat before. If your chickens are now 4 months, are you getting any eggs yet?
January 20, 201214 yr It's illegal and sometimes there are arrest, but evidently the fines are not stiff enough to stop them. I've never seen a fight but a teenager showed me one that he had on his phone. They put spurs and razor-like objects on their feet to do as much damage as possible. Very grim ordeal and hard to understand why people would want to watch that. When I was in highschool many years a go my friend lived on a farm and we would fight roosters almost everyday after school we usually put boxing gloves on them so they didn't killed each other. My friend would shoot them up with steroids and other stuff if he was taking them to a fight.

January 22, 201214 yr Author How did you come to choose bantams?Back in the spring my girlfriend wanted to start raising chickens when I gave in and said yes she started looking for Silkies and we ended up with bantams. It was neat as they grew how they were like pets and were fun to be around. They would come running when I would walk out to the pen. When I sit down and fed them they would fly up and sit on they while I fed them bread. They were fun. We split up in June and when I started wanting my own chicks in August I got bantams.
January 24, 201214 yr I'm glad you're enjoying them; chickens can be pretty entertaining. Your eggs are pretty small, right? Have you considered getting any regular-sized hens?
