Who knows if they have even one every day starter yet? Mesoraco may or may not work out.

I can think of a lot of can't miss prospects the Reds have had that missed. Strike while the iron is hot.

 

It's not just the Reds. It is true for every team in baseball. Very few prospects live up to the hype they receive while moving up through the minors.

Let's hope that Mesoraco doesn't go the route of Brandon Larson who tore up the minors but couldn't cut it in the majors.

The two aren't remotely comparable. Larson was built up needlessly as a savior when, looking back now, it's obvious he was a so-so guy who put together two monster half-seasons in Triple A ... when he was 26 and 27. Mesoraco appears to have established himself as an MLB-ready catcher at the age of 23, three years before Larson ever became a real "prospect."

 

Plus, he's a catcher, not a guy playing a position where you're expected to be an above-average hitter.

Alonso had no position and runs like his shoes are in the box. His value was probably much higher currently than it ever would be in a Reds uni.
