Penick will not get a scholarship offer from Xavier, nothing against Dan, but that is just not realistic

 

 

I'm just sayin what i heard.

I totally agree with Tiger1. What has he proven? He can't even dominate in the 9th region how will he even play D-1. 6-9 is like 7'0" in high school, but almost every team has 4 or 5 6'9" guys in college. A good test for penick this year would be him vs. Kiernan in the All A. If they meet I think keirnan would show the region why 1)Penick is overrated and 2) Keirnan is the best bigman the region has to offer.

Fact of the matter is 6'10 Tim Volpenhin from HC got a scholarship to EKU and doesn't have near the raw ability Penick does. Timmy went to college and now has a good career over seas.

He will have his Div. 1 scholarship at the end of the year and bigstud, tiger1 and the boy will still be dishing out their playground knowledge to anyone that will listen and honestly that is very , very few.

Why throw me in their I'm defending Dan. I've been one of the biggest Dan supporters on this sight.

 

I do think he hasn't reach his full potential and we agree on that.

 

But lets set a few things straight. If Dan had the talent around him Votel had at CCH I gurantee you see a different player. Not saying he is as good or better than Votel. But showing up with Todd Jacobs and Tierney in the backcourt is a little different.

 

Also Penick is a true perimeter player. The kid handles the ball like a guard and has a nice shot. In College he will play the 3 spot and maybe the 4. He has nice build and height. He is athletic. A mid major looking for a diamond in the rought would be dumb not to make an offer to a kid with his potential.

 

The Ohio U's and the Miami Oh's , and Bowlling Green's (who i heard he is leaning to) of the world don't pick between the best of the best. They have to find players such as Dan who they can devolp.

 

Dan will be division I disagree or agree doesn't matter. If your 6'9 and can play the perimeter you get a DI offer.

:ylsuper: :ylsuper: Great Call!! Penick represented himself very well over the summer and displayed skills that he doesn't get the opportunity to showcase.

 

What is going to give hime the opportunity to succeed at college is his ability to play away from the basket. Too many times a big kid is pigeon holed as only a post player and instead of maximizing his ability to play at the next level it has probably been minimized.

Pennick is certainly D1 material. He does handle the ball well (not quite point guard quality though) and can already shoot the mid range jumper. He is also a good passer and not at all selfish. He is explosive off of the floor and certainly finishes on his drives to the hoop.

 

Big Stud makes a good point concerning the Volpenhein kid. Dan is a much better ball player than he was at this point. I have seen him dominate high school games and have also seen him lack the motivation and disappear on the court as well. I think some of that has to do with the schedule that Ludlow has to play for the conference and he is not challenged on a regular basis.

But it seems that Dan is the Top Senior Prospect out of the area.

O.K. my friends I just came from the Campbell Cty Tournament and watched Beechwood knock off a previously undefeated Morgan County team. Michael Romes can flat out play the game and IMO he has to be in the top 2 or 3 in the region.

I just watched Holmes and CCH tonight down at the 5/3 Classic. Holmes won big vs. Henderson Co. and CCH lost to Owensboro Cath. Here are my thoughts on the two teams prospects.

 

1. Greg Rice-2 more inches and he's UC material.

2. Arnez Hendrson-This kids really only a soph? Are you kidding? D-1 material

3. Todd Jacobs- The boy can shoot, I know we say he is small for a 2 guard but I think he could play at any level.

4. Duran Jefferson- Small? Yes, but he is a floor general and does it well. So unselfish its not funny. But my only question is, Can he take over if he has too? He was very impessive though.

5. Austin Hill- Very athletic and gives everything he has for the 4 quarters. He will be playing somwhere.

Penick is a very good fit for a D2 collage or a D3 he for being 6'9 is not very Physical, doesnt really play hard and doesnt have good leadership skills on the court, and everyone has said it for four years now that he has the potential to be better than Ross Nelter, Mike Brock, Brendan Votel, but every year he comes out he is the same player. Now he goes to a D2 school they can bulk him up get him more physical and get him in a everyday routine of playing with passion. Dan has great upsides he shoots it well from three, he will rebound, he is very athletic. I think the people around Dan could have done a better job with him..and yes that means coaching.

Well Golden Boy you and the boy may be right in your evaluation of Penick. Who knows for sure but all it takes is one Div 1 coach to think otherwise and as it stands right now he has 2 or 3 very interested. And as bigstud says from time to time they know more then you or I.

Not sure he ever gave real consideration to going to Holmes at this late stage of his high school career. Not sure Ludlow would just turn a blind eye to that one and I'm sure other teams in the region would have objected loudly. May not have ever stepped on the floor for the Dogs. Would have been another Mitchell type situation. He actually gave more consideration to returning to live with his family down around Corbin and attending Lynn Camp. As a Senior I think Dan realized it would be more trouble then it's all worth.
