Conner was 9 for 21 from the line.

 

I only remember one basket from outside of 5 feet.

Strong defensive effort by Barker on Stansberry and by Huff on Hatton.

Shout out to Pouncy, Berns, and Scully. Great called game tonite. Great job keeping it under control. No barking from either coach.

Barker is w good size kid for his age. He will be very good for the Cougars over the next couple years.

 

Officiating was very god tonight as well. I can think of less than 5 times where I questioned a call/no call.

The challenge for Jim Hicks is to now remind his players that they made tons of mistakes tonight and not to get overconfident just because they stayed close to Dixie. They have a lot to work on offensively. The base (effort and attitude) seems to be there. Now you build.

Well stated. If Conner works their tails off and continues to improve with each game and each week, they might find their way out of the 33rd this year. I believe they host the District tournament. Golden opportunity.

Sounds like they should have won this game then. I saw the Cougars play this summer and they played very hard for Hicks. I think last year's Sr class may have been hard to motivate but this group seems to be hungry.

They started 5 who were all apart of their JV Championship team last season. They all play very hard and know how to win. Nearly zero varsity experience tonight for the Cougars, yet they all played with great poise and did not seem one bit intimidated with Dixie's number one spot in the rankings.

That was a nice group last year, I was actually surprised the Bluebirds beat them at home but I am not surprised they ended up JV Champs.

Q, remember that game well. I believe that was the game where the scorers table omitted a Conner FG in the first half. Turned out to be big in the end. A fun game to watch.

Turning point last night was when Dixie led by 12 in the middle of the third quarter and then had a few turnovers combined with back to back technical fould by Bruns and Mullingan in less than a minute to allow Conner to pull within 4. Conner would take the lead on their first possession of the 4th and it was game on from there.

 

Speaking of omitting baskets, was it just me or did the scorers table short/give Conner an extra basket?? Situation... Dixie is up 8-6 late in the first quarter, Conner scores and next thing I know Conner is up 10-8. Did they score two baskets to end the first?? I ask because when Conner scored to start the second quarter, the score was never changed to (what should have been) 12-8. If the scorers table truly messed this up and Conner was indeed up 10-8 on 5 fg's to end the first quarter, that is a huge mistake as it would have left Conner down 1 at the end of the game and not 3 and could have changed the final minutes.

 

Someone help me out here?? Clyde??
