Extra points total ended up at 104, with 60 for New, and 44 for Brockett (correct stat for Western game was New 7 for 7, Brockett 1 for 1). Thats beats the old state record of 97 (Boyle County, 2000) and ties for second nationally with Charlotte Independence, NC, 2004. And one post for Trub, 2011

How many touchdowns did Highlands actually amass for the year? I have seen 119 and I have also seen 121. What was the official final tally?

Sheehan had a great season but the NFHS requires a minimum of 75 receptions to be listed in the single season yards per catch category.

Also, on pat's, discovered that the state record is 12 in a game. HHS / Brockett had two 11 for 11 games (Holmes and Pendleton County), tying him for second (twice) with seven others.

I agree. Imagine if he had that many receptions and still kept the same average.

I wonder how many receivers in Kentucky had 75 receptions this season. From a quick check I don't see any in Northern KY that had even 50.

Earlier in this thread CentreRocks asked when the mercy rule started. I guess I finally goggled the right phrase today. In a Mike Fields' Notebook article posted on Kentucky.com on 9/23/2011 I found the rule was adopted in 2001. When I was listening to a HHS webcast this year the play by play guys said it use to be the coaches could agree to start the rule in the first half when the 45 point limit was reached but the khsaa modified the rule this year. They stated "the rule reads instead of starting at halftime if the 45 point spread was reached in the first half the running clock starts at whatever point the spread was met".

 

I haven't been able to verify that statement but I assume it's right. According to game posts on here and the webcast guys HHS had 7 first half running clocks this year. In the Fields article five coaches were asked about the mercy rule and coach Mueller was the only who didn't lie it. He was qouted "my guys work hard to get where we want to be and they need game time. I have 85 boys who signed up to play football and some lose that chance because of the mercy rule".

 

Here in Pennsylvania the mercy rule starts at halftime or later, whenever the 35 point difference is reached. That wasn't a typo--only 35 points .

The khsaa wb site doesn't have the final stats up for 2011 but through 12 games only Matt Morgan of Elizabethtown with 103 had reached the 75 reception threshold. He managed that on a team that had a 0W-11L record. Four others that were still playing after 12 games still had a chance at 75. In 2010 Kentucky had 4 reach the 75 reception total.

 

I went to maxPreps who list receiving stats by yardage(top 500). Going through that list I found 75 players with atleast 75 catches and several states are still playing. Also, I have no clue on how many schools don't report to MaxPreps. I do know HHS and the majority of the teams on their schedule don't report stats to MaxPreps.

No kidding. What's the record then? 17 yds/catch. If you're catching 75 balls a season, chances are you are catching a lot of screens.

The record in the NFHS book(thru 2009 season) was 25.8yds/catch with 90 receptions for 2,321 yards. That was broken this year by Gehrig Dieter from Indiana with 82 catches for 2,181 yards and an average of 26.6 yds/catch. MaxPreps lists 6 players this season with 2,000+ receiving yards but they mostly were in the 15 to 17 yds/catch range. One kid had 150+ catches but only averaged 12.9 yds/catch.
