However, there were plenty of 90+ degree days where the football practice field was the last place I wanted to be, but I loved and wanted what I/we were working towards more than those other sports.

 

It's like in June, where basketball and baseball get to play umpteenmillion games (be them school or aau affiliated, it doesnt matter, they are still playing), it's hard to fight or not understand why a kid would rather go play a basketball game or baseball game instead of coming to lift and run for football when they don't "have to".

 

This doesn't hold water in many parts of the state of Ky and certainly doesn't hold water in every state south of here. It doesn't hold water in Ohio. It is about committment from administrations and coaching staffs.

You're exactly right. Which is why Ohio and states south of here (with maybe the exception of Tennessee) are heads and shoulders above Kentucky.

Don't kid yourself. Tennessee is still and will probably always be head and shoulders above Kentucky in Football. With OH, TN, GA, AL, MS, ect... it's a different culture when it comes to football. From the parents to the community to the admins to the coaches.

You pointed out the obvious with it being a different culture in terms of the administrations, parents and communities in those other states. As far as Tennessee, though, I don't buy it with them being heads and shoulders better. Are they better from top to bottom? Sure, but not much. If nothing else, look at the Our KY schools records vs Tennessee the past few years. I'm not sure exactly what it is, but it can't be much, if any? In terms of facilities, I've been to several in Tennessee and it's hit and miss. Much like here.

 

In terms of better coaches? Maybe so, from top to bottom and that goes back to administration. You get what you pay for. However, I find it very hard to believe that the best 10-15 coaches in our state wouldn't have the same success if given the luxuries that many of the schools in GA, Bama, etc have. I know an older coach in KY who told me a story about the Pardue guy (now at UK, former 15+ year coach at LaGrange, GA) tell me that when he and Pardue were in their early 20's (Pardue was at Crittenden County as an assistant then) Pardue said, "I want to go somewhere where I can coach and make some money doing it." Well, he did just that. Moral of that? A very good coach, who went to a place that cared about football and he just so happened to be from Kentucky.

 

Heck, Tony Franklin in '96 was 1-9 at Mercer County. Three years later, he's named NCAA Div. 1 Offensive Coordinator of the year. There's a lot of guys that are good coaches.

I didn't mean they had better coaches. Probably shouldn't have included coaches in there but did to illistrate the difference is from top to bottom. I stand by the statement of Tennessee is head shoulders better. I don't think you can use the Ky vs TN record as s measure without knowing the teams involved.
