November 3, 201114 yr I can not think of any reason why the testing shouldn't be performed. Preventing the execution of an innocent man should trump ANY reason the state can give on why they won't.
November 4, 201114 yr I am opposed to the death penalty, generally, on other grounds. This is obviously an interesting case, but what about it makes you opposed to the death penalty, Clyde?
November 4, 201114 yr This is why I'm for the death penalty in some instances: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2057618/Kelli-OLaughlin-John-L-Wilson-Jr-charged-murder-schoolgirl-14-stabbed-death-burglary.html I'm a firm believer that if you kill a kid you should die. I am a lot softer on the death penalty because mistakes scare me, but kill a kid and we know it should equal death. The two guys in Connecticut that raped and murdered that mother and her two daughters should have been exectued on the spot. Sorry.

The two guys in Connecticut that raped and murdered that mother and her two daughters should have been exectued on the spot. Sorry. People are opposed to it for different reasons. I have friends who are opposed on religious grounds ie only God should determine who lives - not the state. That's not my issue. Mine is simply that there are too many cases where there is legitimate doubt as to the guilt of the person set to die as we see here. Way too many people have been released due to bad evidence or bad science. Then you have cases like the one in TX where an expert later testified that the person who the prosecution relied upon used junk science . Now you've got prosecutor that refuses to use proven science to determine if the person was truly guilty. There are cases where there is zero doubt that the person committed the crime. For those, I'm mostly OK with ending their life. However, due to the others and in the name of not killing innocent people I say you do away with it entirely. I've seen some say on here that innocent people dying is just the price we have to pay for the use of the death penalty. I don't buy that.
November 5, 201114 yr Are you ok with putting someone in prison for the rest of their life when there is legitimate doubt about their guilt?
November 5, 201114 yr Author Are you ok with putting someone in prison for the rest of their life when there is legitimate doubt about their guilt? More than I am ending their life. Let them go through the process to be exonerated.

I wouldn't mind if they get rid of it because one mistake is one too many, but like you and I both said some people deserve it. The guy in Cincinnati that kicked his own kid in the stomach and it took him 24 hours to die deserves on the spot execution.
November 5, 201114 yr I'm opposed to the death penalty. I simply don't believe that humans can never err. I realize that people can still be wrongly imprisoned and while I still hate that a situation like that can occur, there's always the possibility that the wrong can be righted. The fact is, people have lost their lives despite their innocence. You can't make that right.
November 5, 201114 yr Specifically to the article linked.... How in the world can a justice system be deemed credible when evidence is not tested for veracity? How can a justice system refuse to allow testing of evidence and any of us belive in the power of that system to mete out "justice"?
November 5, 201114 yr In a clear cut situation where a person premediates and kills someones they need to be put to death. If there any doubt in them doing so, no way. The guy who shot the congresswoman, and killed the people standing by it my perfect example of the DP. Its a Sin to kill a thing God created, and the final eteral judgement is gonna be for a long time.
November 6, 201114 yr More than I am ending their life. Let them go through the process to be exonerated. In this case if he was serving a life sentence instead of the death penalty he would die in prison. The courts have rejected his appeals, he has nothing left. It's either die now or die from old age in prison.

It's either die now or die from old age in prison. Don't focus on this one case. My point is that we've proven that there are people who have not been properly sentenced that are set to die. Until we eliminate that then the DP has to cease. Are you OK with some innocents being put to death?
