What were his stats against Rockcastle Co. and Madison Southern in the playoffs?

Until Bell comes up with a better passing system(it appeared last year that they just mainly threw it up hoping their receivers could come up with it), I just can't see Nelson developing as a passing QB. He is not really allowed to make reads and they rarely run timing type patterns except for the post pattern. There is a lot more to being a really good QB than just running or throwing.

 

Just because Nelson isnt a passing QB doenst mean he isnt a great QB, or a QB who has the ability to pass! He was not allowed to air it out in these games. Bell only resorts to the pass when the running game isnt working. This is why I feel they got beat by Rockcastle in the playoffs but not in the regular season. However, in the games where he was allowed to air it out he performed extremely well. Just look at the regular season games against Rock and Madison Southern as proof.

 

I totally agree.... just because you dont have the passing stats out the roof, or just because you cant tote the rock doesnt make you a bad QB. Like I have said many times before.... IMO leadership is what defines the QB position at any level and IMO leadership is reflected in the QB's ability to lead his team to wins! There is alot of debate about this because football is a team game, but despite this the QB is the leader and either gets the blame or the glory when it comes to winning... thats the way it works in football. Because of this I feel wins is the most important stat for a QB! Right now, in the mountains, Nelson is the leader in that category!

On the stats per KHSAA website:

 

Clay's Lewis = 16 TD's (I was off 2, as was my source) compared to 26 ints! 55% completion. This is including the playoffs (which only included a loss to Ashland... not sure if he had any TD's against Ashland but I wouldnt count them anyways considering it would have came against Ashlands 2nd or 3rd team) :sssh:

 

Bell's Nelson = 13 TD's compared to only 6 ints. 59% completion percentage! This is including the playoffs which featured Nelson against much stiffer competition! :sssh:

 

Lewis is good... but most of his passes are completions to the back out the backfield, or little dink passes on out routes or hitch routes. Any average QB can complete a million of these type passes, rack up yardage, and then look good! However, look a little deeper at the stats and you get the real picture!

SPORTSFORLIFE - Updated Research on Nelson's stats that include the playoffs! This is per Bell Co. statitician. I was wrong in saying his previous stats on the KHSAA website included the playoffs because they didnt, but these new ones do!

 

Bell's Nelson Regular Season & Playoff Stats-

 

Passing:

101 completions 189 attempts

1839 yards

53.4% completion percentage

18.2 yrds per completion

18 TD's

8 ints

Longest Pass 86 yards

Average per game 141.5

 

Rushing:

48 attempts

331 yards

2 TD's

 

 

I know this may seem a little thorough.... but I'd hate to make a mistake in my stats ya know! :sssh:

Jefferson is smart and quick, but I'm not sure he has the arm it takes to make him a top QB in 2006. He also could use better pass blocking and receivers. A lot of times, its not how good are you, but how good are the other people around you.

I think the line and backs this past season were pretty good. Biggest drawback on DJ was we was so raw. He is so athletic that alot of times the dawgs relied on that more than technique IMO and that only goes so far. He will be better this year and so should the bulldogs be. If they can stay healthy and academically keep from loosing players to ineligibility to a minimum, they should be better this year.

Did some research for ya..... Nelson's stats vs Rockcastle and Madison Southern in the regular season and playoffs!

 

Regular Season: Bell vs. Rock

16-24 329 yrds 3 TD's 1 INT .... also completed 3 passes in the last minute to get Bell within scoring range and then scores game winning TD on a QB sneak!

 

Regular Season: Bell vs. Madison Southern

15-24 348 yards 3 TD's 1 INT

 

Playoffs: Bell vs. Rock

18-39 221 yrds

 

Playoffs: Bell vs. Madison Southern

10-16 152 yards 1 TD.... Bell rushed for 349 yards on 51 attempts.... really didnt need Nelson's arm that game

Your research lisense is officially cancelled. 17 td passes and 16 int. Where you got 26 is beyond me. Double checked this with a stat man before post. Every stat you give is completely wrong. Any stat you ever give again will be contested by everyone on this site. Also you stated in one of your post that Nelson threw for twice as many TD's. 17Clay-13Bell Not only is your research aweful, your math is too. Watch the Bell and Ashland tapes if you think all passes are short. As an Ashland fan posted earlier about the game vs Clay. 422 yards passing is great, no matter who you are playing against. What was his stats against the great Bell Co. I think he threw a TD in first series and if I remember correctly, all the passes were down the field. You guys won but I believe he played pretty well against you. That's good competition isn't it. Also, Clay's TE had 57 catches this season. I don't think he was catching dink passes out of backfield or out routes. If he was I don't think he would have got all SEKC or All WYMT Mt team.

The KHSAA Website is my source... check it out! I didnt count his one TD against Ashland because it was against their 3rd team. 22 ints is per the KHSAA website whose stats are filed by the Clay coaches + the 4 he had against Ashland which arent counted on the KHSAA website. Here is the link. I dont think any of my stats are false whatsoever. They all either came from the KHSAA website..... or from the Bell Co. statitician (only the stats for Nelson that is)!

These stats do not include the playoffs! I posted Nelson's previous stats which do include the playoffs in an earlier post. The only adjustment you have to make to Lewis's stats if you include the playoffs is add 4 ints and a TD (which equals 17 tds and 26 ints).

110 / 217 (51%), 17 TDs, 14 INTs, 1698 Yards (Long - 90 Yards vs Corbin)

 

Rushing -

 

115 / 591 Yards (5.2 per carry), 10 TDs. Longest rush isn't recorder, but I remember 1 against Corbin and 1 against Belfry that were 70+.
