November 4, 201114 yr But that is still the crux of the whole thing. Greed is tempered by failure. If you are not allowed to fail, what is there to offset the greed? Isn't that essentially what they're getting at with the term moral hazard? I agree with you by the way. It seems that we lose either way. I think that's the most sickening thing to me is how they play it up like they did this for the middle class, working man. If that's the case, why not divvy up that bailout money to all of us working class people and let us pay our debts off? Why not bail us out?

November 11, 201114 yr The OWS protesters need to realize the difference between crony capitalism and capitalism. Judging by the protesters' responses they would like job security and basically given the right to a job, along with accusing the rich of not paying taxes. There are a lot of problems with this. For one, the top .1% pays around 12% of taxes, top 1% pays 20% and the top 20% pay around 70% of the taxes (Not completely accurate but generally close for the most part). I agree that our current economy favors the rich but they are not addressing the source of the problem. In my eyes, they are asking for a blend of socialism without realizing the consequences of even more Federal regulation. Get rid of career politicians. Simply, the government needs to downsize and quit dictating how the market should run. Let free market capitalism work and quit putting banks in positions that are "too big to fail". We have six banks in this country that combined have assets worth 66 percent of our nation's GDP, $9.4 trillion. We need to get back to properly sized banks and financial instutions. The Federal Reserve needs to go or they need to do away with the current Federal Reserve Act which allows the printing of money without regulation. If you disagreed with the bailouts check how many trillions were printed and loaned to foreign instutions during '08 - '10. Inflation and the value of our dollar greatly impact consumer prices. The last few years prices have rose, inflation is becoming an issue and the dollar has went down in value. To those of you who supported the bailout and think it was essential or we would be in an even bigger mess..take this in to consideration regarding the car companies. Instead of giving them billions why not buy EVERY car off of their lots so you paid for their product. The assembly line continues to produce more vehicles and no one is laid off. Those cars that were bought could be sold to people for a very low montly rate who qualify (carless with a job, etc., you get the main idea). That is just an example that the Fed Government could have found solutions for all of the instiutions without merely printing & loaning billions. Is anyone familiar with the term "goat rodeo?" Basically means everything turns in to a complete disaster so the only move anyone can make is the right move forward. Hopefully, we don't have to reach that point.

The last few years prices have rose, inflation is becoming an issue and the dollar has went down in value. The bailout was supposed to be the about $650 or so billion in the TARP. But, in the bailout the Fed secretly used just under $8 trillion according to Bloomberg, to $16 trillion according to the GAO, But the cumulative total is said to actually be around $29 trillion. Congress didn't even know this until recently. Why isn't the Fed government controlled? You also mentioned about how some banks are set up and are "too big to fail", Too big to fail = too big to exist. We also need to reinstate glass-steagall act.
