How do they operate? I live in Central Ky. They look pretty successful and like they have a good operation going from where I sit. What am I missing? Sounds like jealousy to me.

If you check the Ballard roster over the past several years it is "amazing" how many of the kids came from outside Ballard's district or appeared to be going to other schools and changed their minds late and went to Ballard. I'm sure they go for the basketball, which is understandable, but IMO there is not much difference than kids deciding to go to T and X for sports so I don't think Renner can hold any resentment.

I'm not sure he is to blame as much as his administration as he has never avoided playing anybody in the past.

Thank you. I think people would be hard pressed to find a school who doesn't have an out of district kid playing for them or benefitted in the past from at least one out of district kid playing for them. I am so over the public/private debate. It doesn't matter who is where if those that are there aren't putting in the work to be successful. It'd be nice to see a Ballard/Trinity game without the season on the line. Sounds like it should be a great game if they meet up.

No problem. I figured it must have been. As soon as I saw it disappeared I knew I needed to delete my post since it technically became a rules violation as well. I don't want that kind of PM. :D

To clarify something. The JCPS is open enrollment. And yes, I'm sure that there are MANY students at Ballard that are not within the "resides" district. HOWEVER, those kids chose Ballard. And those kids had the opportunityt o choose Eastern, J-Town, Trinity, X, KCD, Collegiate, Shawnee, Moore....they could have gone anywhere they wanted. Personally, I love that about JCPS. I think that is the way it should be. Ballard may not be playing us any longer, for whatever reason, but I can't let people be misled as to how they get their players.

Sorry about my rules violation!!! What I meant to say was that schools with good programs draw student-athletes. If I am good at basketball and I want to go to a public school in Jefferson County than I would probably pick Ballard, Eastern, PRP, etc. That is the system we have right now...and it is what it is!!!

Thank you for the clarification, Goldie. I like open enrollment. Seems like a great idea. Kind of hard for anyone in Louisville to complain about anything.

I wouldn't go that far!! The better programs get all the good players!! How are the middle and lower-tier schools ever going to compete if they year in and year out lose players in their own area to Ballard, Eastern, PRP, Manual, etc!! Students should have to go to their reside school. Only way to even the playing field. Then, you would have different schools having a chance to compete for a regional title instead of the same ones every year!!!

I don't know. I know if I lived in Louisville my kids would likely go to Trinity, St. X, Ballard, Central, PRP or Eastern and that is the truth. I would want my kids at the best program possible.

I will give the nod to Trinity for two reasons: 1) Numbers- Give me Trinity's Foster, Saxton, Hicks, Deudone, Quick and Perito over Ballard's Snider, Lewis, Holland and Martin, 2) Experience- Trinity's senior class is loaded with good players who have played a lot of high school ball and AAU ball... together.

Foster has already given a verbal committment to Moreahed.

From J Demling:

Szabo said senior Nathan Dieudonne has drawn coaches from IUPUI, Bellarmine, Yale, Monmouth, Lehigh, Siena and Boston U.

The 6-foot-7 Dieudonne is one of the state’s top seniors.

Trinity High School junior Darryl Hicks is considered one of the state’s top underclassmen and has drawn a lot of college coaches during the last few weeks.

According to Trinity coach Mike Szabo, the 6-foot-4 Hicks has been watched by coaches from Georgia Tech, Tennessee, Boston College, Minnesota, Auburn, South Carolina, Marquette, Georgia and Wright State.

Why should they be forced to go to a school they don't want to go to. If it comes to that, I think you'll see one and/or two things begin to happen: Parents of players who now live in one area move to another area so their kids can attend the school they want for their kid. Parents trying to get around the system in much the same way that Oldham County is experiencing with JCPS parents. And do you feel the same way about academics as you do the athletics? Check out the school's listed academically. I think you'll find that they're also very good in that area, if not way above in some of the measuring criteria. The choice for open enrollment isn't about athletics.

The schools who "miss out" on students/players need to emulate what the "successful" schools are doing to attract students. This may take a few years but, when the process is finished,.....presto!... you have improved all schools.

Why not the 3rd. & 5th.? Looks like you've got the rest of 'em covered
