Meade scores with :17 left to make the score closer than the game really was. Henderson D dominated most of the game and was probably their best showing to date.

I was extremely shocked until I remembered that Wilson is out for Meade. Without him, they don't have a lot of bullets.

Actually, the last-year enrollment figures I saw had Henderson as the fifth-largest public school in the state, behind Scott County, Henry Clay, Eastern and Dunbar.

Huh. Didn't know they had lost that "honor."

They haven't been the biggest public in a few years.

I'm confused. Henderson wins 34-18 and you ask why their program isn't stronger? They made the region title game last year losing to Male at Male because of a missed chip shot field goal. They've made the regional championship 6 of the last 10 years with 3 semi-state appearances. What other 6A team outside of T or X can say the same?

I understand the sentiment woodsrider, but be real here. Thomas Wilson is everything to that team. He's their best player in every facet of the game - passing, rushing, and defense too. Not having him on the field changes the whole dynamic. He had half of Meade's offense against Warren Central on two plays alone. Probably had something around 70% of their total offense on the night, but 50% on two plays.

HC held Meade in check most of the game with two of their scores coming in the 4th quarter and 1 with only 7 seconds left against HC's subs. Would they have scored more if Wilson had played, possibly but you guys are acting like the only reason Henderson won was because Wilson didn't play. Henderson still put up 34 points and 2 100 yard rushers. Is one guy to change all of that?

Neither of us said anything about it changing the win into a loss, only that not having him made a big difference in helping Henderson's defense. I have seen Meade County twice this year, and believe me, they would have been nowhere near the same team in either case without Wilson. He had 294 yards against Greenwood, and 173 against Warren Central. He is the team's leading rusher and passer (the passing an obvious one). I'm surprised they can even move the ball without him. Defensively, I would not be surprised to hear he leads them in tackles as well. The kid was everywhere.

 

So again, I understand your sentiment of "ifs and buts", but you kid yourself if you think this was low impact. Henderson County got out to a 28 point lead in large part I'm sure because Meade couldn't move the ball. Field position changes, attitudes change, etc. It's a big deal.
