Big changes coming to Facebook

Featured Replies

I guess I'm in the minority. Some of the changes made me have to think a minute, but I've never minded any of the changes at all. I actually look foward to their changes, because once I figure it out, it's always really awesome.

I read about the changes yesterday, and to me it seems like FB is going to look more like myspace.

I'm not a huge fan of twitter, so I won't be spending a lot of time there...but I've been spending less and less time on FB.

That is what I noticed on his pics, a lot of a Myspace look. They claim they want to keep people on FB longer, and "win" back those who don't like it and don't use it too much anymore but only get on at times to talk/chat/check up on friends. But what about the people who just want to see posts and pics from friends and family and maybe just chat with them a few minutes? I am reading many older people are getting fed up that it's not so simple anymore.

Well, time will tell.

If I was paying for the privilege to use Facebook I may get more upset when they make these changes but since it remains a free service my advice would be if you don't like it don't use it.

In a broader sense, we really are the customer; because, if we leave, we take the advertising dollars with us. Facebook had a good thing going and they're trying way too hard to make themselves look like their competitors.

When you provide a service, you have to make it a comfortable experience for those who use it. Facebook doesn't seem to understand that people, especially Americans, value they're freedom and guard it closely. They shouldn't be making choices for us that we can better make for ourselves -- such as what we see on our newsfeed. Instead, they now have HAL 9000 deciding what we will see.

If you want to make a bunch of crazy changes, at least make them optional. Customization makes the experience enjoyable for everyone.

Agreed! Many people fail to see, we are the product, they are making A LOT of money off of us! It's not free, it's just someone else is paying for us with ad money! But, as you may have seen in South Park, you can never delete your FB profile, it stays there, you can suspend it, but you can't delete it, I really would like to know how may active users they have, something tells me the number of profiles that people just suspended or just don't use anymore some how finds it's way into the actice user numbers when FB looks for advertizers.

As far as what you see on your news feeds, I have noticed a lot less posts? I know a while back ago they change the options and everyones setting without telling anyone, here you had to go to the bottom of your page and click chat options and select to receive every post that all your friends send. What if your friends are having a get together? or they posted news about someones health, or a death, but that/these posts were not "selected" by FB to be sent to your page? Hopefully they will tweek this, I am willing to give it a chance (now that I can see all friends who are online again), but I am not sure if I like the Myspace look.

I have been hearing there may be a IPO on the horizon, I hope so, then they will have people to answer to.

^ If it's not broke why "fix" it.

That's what they said about the typewriters.

BTW every one of these arguments was made when FB changed to the News Feed and other changes they've made.

They're still in business so apparently people got over their "anger."

Wish people on here would do the same, lol

You still had the option to use the typerwriter, I don't have the option to use the old FB. :D

I do not use facebook all that much. Primarily I just read; but I am not understanding all the fuss. It is the same with this website. When we do a major overhaul it drives me nuts for a bit until I realize the newer version makes the site more user friendly and accessible.
