The only kid I saw out for HHS that night was the big kid from Newport #12. IF he can throw the ball he's a difference-maker at the QB position.

Wrong....the difference maker is having the time to throw the ball. Beau is the right kid for the job...You would be surprised how much more Beau knows about the game than you and I put together.....It's too bad the kid's body hasn't caught up with his head yet. He would be a instant "Superstar"....Period!

Well, if I was 6 inches taller, 20 years younger, and stronger I'd be in the NBA.

I deal with what I see and not with "IFs."

#12 is a big kid who looks the part. Maybe he can't throw a lick. I've been told he can. If I've been told correctly then he would be my QB and I'd use the Hoge kid elsewhere.

And where did you hear this from? # 12 was among five kids that tried out for the quarterback position in the preseason and he was the first one that was moved to another position. He has yet to play a snap that I am aware of. The other 3 kids that tried out for the QB job are now starting at inside linebacker, safety and wide receiver/safety.

Some of what you state in your post is exactly why kids are labeled or mislabeled. Just because one looks the part does not mean that they are the best player for the job. Hoge has taken every snap thus far for the frosh and they are 4-2 which is more than respectable. Trinity would defeat each and every one of the teams in Northern Kentucky and it would appear that Boone may have been ravaged with injuries. Big matchup in coming weeks as many on here have annointed Dixie and Ryle as the teams that will be playing again at the end of October.

As has been pointed out before, Towles was the backup quarterback to New when they were freshman. Maybe this is a similar situation.

First, why does it matter where I heard it from? Maybe the kid can throw better but he couldn't get the playbook down. Who knows.

My guess is Hoge, being a good athlete, gets moved to DB or WR for high school.

Correct. New was a strong athlete who is showing he is a strong high school DB today. HHS likes to pass the ball downfield more than most teams. That requires strong arms. PT fit that much better than New and New being a DB makes the Birds the challenge that they are.

If's...Don't be putting words into my mouth.....

No doubt, however I watched this game he has arm strength but he has to hit open receivers that are behind DB. I am sure he would want a few of thoses passes back. I am sure this will come in time. I have been told by a reliable source, Hoge won the QB comp and should be starter. He knows game and they are freshman, still SCIT.

When you say it's too bad the kid's body hasn't caught up to his head you're saying "if he was bigger he'd be better."

I agree with that sentiment. Right now that's a big "if."

To make myself clear so that no one says I'm taking "shots" at a kid:

I've seen the kid play basketball. Heckuva athlete. IMO (key) I just don't see him as playing varsity QB unless there's a big growth spurt. His athletic ability will get him on the field and I have zero doubt he will be a contributor to the Birds.

And, as has already been pointed out, New won the job in frosh camp as well.

Things change.

My opinion and 50 cents aren't even enough for a tip at the Breakfast Club though so......

You may be right. I for one think Beau is better on the Defensive side of the ball. Comes to practice better prepared! People can spin it all they want, but Beau has been taught the game of football from someone who has played at the highest level and has been successful doing it. I will say it again, "IF" Beau had a little more size, he would be "Heads" and shoulders above the competition. There Clyde, there is your If you didn't want to hear

I agree, he threw some very poorly thrown balls. Now after watching how he threw last night I would love to have a rematch of Boone. Not sure if it will happen though!
