I admit you guys are closer to the Fort Campbell situation than I am, but really, guys? Is Fort Campbell's problem leadership ... or is this team just not as talented as the 2007-09 state champs?

I will be completely honest with you....I think it's a combination of both. I lean more to the lack of leadership issue than the talent. Fort Campbell has some talent, not as much as the teams that threepeated though, and because of the the lack of leadership....they don't play to their potential.

Just my two Lincolns.

But it starts with talent. Few small-school teams (A-2A) were as talented as the Falcons in that era. Some of you guys act like this team should be just as dominant as they were ... it's not happening.

Who said the 2011 Falcons were expected to go 15-0 and dominate like they did in 08/09?

I'm not saying that they should be just as dominant, but what we're seeing is nowhere near as close. Like I said, the talent level is NOT that far off. The 07 season started at 0-2 for the Falcons, but they finished the season as State Champs....that team in itself was different than the two that won in 08 and 09. Different quarterback, different starting backfield, different defensive backs....much different, but there was leadership to go along with that talent.

I'll be brutally honest (and not for you, but just in case some of our Falcons are reading this). There is a/are player/players on this team that have the talent, maybe even more so than some key players from the previous seasons, but their leadership skills and overall attitude towards what it takes to be a teammate are seriously lacking. Their leadership and attitude is NOT displayed well, not to the fans in the stands, to me on the sideline, or (and most importantly) to the younger players that look to them to see what to do.

I read similar comment last year, and I saw Fort Campbell play Paducah Tilghman last year. Honestly, the talent level wasn't even close. I realize that Tre Powell was missing at the time, but the Falcons I saw really only had one playmaker (Hills) and he was being asked to throw the ball 25 times a game, which wasn't the best part of his game.

Maybe this Fort Campbell has an influx of talent ... I don't know since I haven't seen them play yet. But how many Division I-A and I-AA kids were on the 2008-09 teams, and how many of the guys that are there now have that kind of talent?

I haven’t gone back and re-read every Fort Campbell thread from the past two years, but I don’t remember anybody saying that the 2010 or 2011 Falcons had the same level of talent as the 2008 / 2009 Falcons. What I have said is that they do have the talent to be better than they have been. Whether it’s leadership, fundamentals, teamwork, coaching etc… they just haven’t executed from start to finish. Stupid penalties, bad snaps, attitudes, poor tackling.

As far as the team makeup, there have been several changes from last year. A Freshman, Williams, is now the QB and Hills is playing RB. At least two players that I know of who showed promises as Freshman/Sophomore, but didn’t play last year are back starting as Seniors. Several other Sophomores / Juniors who didn’t start last year are starting to step up and shine.

Again, I’m not getting the comparison to the talent on the 08/09 teams? Like Bill said, maybe the 07 team in some regards, which I believe had one player go to WKU (as a walk on), one go to Murray, and one to Hanover. I could be missing one or two. I could see a similar amount of talent on this team. The 07 team started poorly, got it together, and made the run to state. I can see this team doing the same, if they can get it together.

True, last year's talent wasn't on the same level as the Falcons of the previous two years. This team has some good players though, keeping in mind that many families have PCSd (or moved onto post from the surrounding communities) to Fort Campbell since last season.

Like FC said, this team has the talent, but they haven't really put things together yet....when they do, when they realize thier potential and play to it and the leaders step up, they'll be fine.

I'm not going to single out any particular posters, but I've been reading Fort Campbell threads the last two seasons and there are always a lot of questions about "heart" and "leadership" on these recent teams. Bottom line ... it's more of a talent issue than it is "heart" and "leadership." Bottom line ... Fort Campbell's talent level is back on par with a lot of other teams now.

Well, if nothing else, we have the bottom line defined on FC football.
