Any ideas how much is spent on the mower, grass seed, and general maintenance of a field?

I am not sure of the exact dollar figures, but I have read that SportTurf fields pay for themselves within 5 years or so.

Ryle's field started at $750,000 and ended up around $850,000. Once they started digging ran into some big problems.

Figures vary wildly but I would assume you are speaking of one like ours that is perfect. No idea on costs but it is a job and one that great pride is taken in here. I fear one day that they will try and replace ours with turf but I hope it stays as it is

So for the 5 year payoff to be true schools would have to be spending $100k per year. That cannot be true.

I would say $800,000 if you do it right in looking at them at a show last year. Lasts 10-15 years. It is probably a wash in the long run if it lasts 15. Big plus is you can play limitless games. There is maintenance but minimal. To seed, cut, water, line often, repair after many games, I would say $50,000 when you include the

labor.

^ I don't have that answer. I do know that labor was a factor in the equation.

I love a grass field. When I was a freshmen (at Brossart) I was at the Mud Bowl (Highlands vs CovCath 1996). It was glorious to see them guys covered from head to toe, just brown. Sometimes you couldn't tell who was playing for who. It was "high school" the way it should be. This turf stuff drive me crazy, money saver or not. I just love and miss the mud!
