There is a good reason Bishop Watterson has an open date week 1. If you aren't an upper tier 3A or 4A school, don't call them!

Massilon has week 1 open too and the coach says he can't get anyone to even return a phone call. It would be nice if the Bishop Watt and Massilon could hook up but I don't think it is very likely.

I noticed Belfry, KY was listing an opening on the Ohio board. They are always looking for ways to get better.

They backed out the last time Trinity was to play in Cincinnati. Now that we have hooked up with Nashville's Montgomery Bell Academy, our game one is covered.

 

Since the KHSAA is unsure what's going to happen with realignment in 2007, the schools can't enter into agreements past 2006! It's a shame. By the time Trinity knows of openings, many of the better schools' schedules will be filled.

As a matter of fact, that was partly the case at the time. Trinity had just defeated Ohio state champ Elder 44-20 and gone 15-0 on their way to a #4 national ranking with the odds on favorite USAToday offensive player of the year coming back for his senior year. Massilon weren't exactly the Tigers that they used to to be. I guess 03' was a rebuilding year, so they backed out on a game with the Rocks instead choosing a home game for $$$ reasons. In the discussions the Massilon Coach expressed concern that his secondary and overall young defense weren't really up to the challenge at that time. The fact is the Rocks got off to a slow start (0-4) losing to Cincy St.X instead (17-13 or something like that, less than a TD) and then righted the ship to win their 15th and third straight state championship. The Massilon folks will tell you that they prefer to stay at home if at all possible, revenue from a great venue.
