Collins 56 Mercer County 13

Is Coach Ledford Mercer's OC?

Mercer dug theirselves in a hole early in that game and couldn't get out. Collins scored then did an onside kick which took Mercer by surprise and scored on that drive. On the next kickoff Mercer fumbled inside their own 20 and Collins scored and the next kickoff was the same as the one before. They were down 28-0 in no time. Mercer is young and its going to take some time. I'm still staying positive that we are going to have a good year.

What is a good year? This team is defeated mentally already. There are kids already questioning why they should play hard/listen to a coach who won't be there next year. Good luck motivating the senior class this year also. This year will be similar to last year. Next year(2012) will be a little better. The year after next(2013) will be better than 2012 but Mercer will never be the powerhouse football team/program you want them to be. I have been optimistic for Mercer but the writing is on the wall and it's about time you started reading it. Stick to baseball and basketball. Future is much brighter in those sports. We'll see what Mercer can do when the next wave of great talent are juniors and seniors. But if they have no discipline and don't work as hard as everyone else is..........

Coach Lucas will always have a great offense and he will always develop a quality QB for his offense. Collins is lucky to have him at the helm.

How is the QB that went down for Collins?

He's doing well, a little whip lash and a very mild concussion.

Purple you hit the nail right on the head. It was jaggers, it was mason and now it is rains. All three of those guys can get it done but the situation at Mercer is extremely tough. The program needs stability but no coach is going to want to coach in that environment!

There is no quick fix for the Mercer program, it can only be accomplished through hard work and time! The issue being that no one is given time to fix it. Everyone wants instant results and it isn't going to happen! Not in football anyway, the kids need to work hard in the weightroom over a 4 year period and you will start to see results. You can have all the skill guys you want but when you get dominated up front bad things are going to follow!

I haven't personally seen much "heart" from the skill guys either......

I was hoping I would be wrong but I knew how things would be if Mercer took a bad one in week one. It is depressing to hear and see people jump ship after one game when dealing with a program that needs to be left alone and have a stability created over a 3-4 year period. Rains has instilled the discipline and work ethic needed to succeed and the middle school is picking up the offense nicely. They have to let that man build this program and give him the support needed to build a program.
