August 25, 201115 yr They just got getting lucky and everything came together at the right time. They always had a messed up scouting department and front office and that hasn't changed. The Reds have people that are proven (Walt) to have success in the MLB.With the quality of their division last year and this year's performance I don't think it's a stretch to say that the '10 Reds got "lucky and everything came together at the right time".
August 25, 201115 yr With the quality of their division last year and this year's performance I don't think it's a stretch to say that the '10 Reds got "lucky and everything came together at the right time". Maybe a little bit but that doesn't change the fact that they have people at the top that know what they are doing unlike the Bengals.
August 25, 201115 yr Their recent success was getting swept out of the playoffs. This year has been a pretty big disappointment. It seems a stretch to call winning a very weak division one time "recent success". Didn't the '09 Bengals teach you anything? I put "success" like that for a reason. It's a step in the right direction.

August 25, 201115 yr The same people who keep Dusty around? :sssh: The same guy with a career win% of .540. Won 3 Manager of the Year awards. Love him or hate him he been successful in his career. Can you say the same about Marvin (Winning % of .472)?
August 25, 201115 yr The same guy with a career win% of .540. Love him or hate him he been successful in his career. Can you say the same about Marvin?Hey now. I'm not in ANY attempt trying to defend Mike Brown, Lewis, or anybody remotely associated with the Bengals. Let's be clear that I think Brown is an abomination to sports ownership. But my Dusty comment was alluding to what you said yourself: people who know what they are doing. (Other than Dusty) Seems only fair to ask that question.

Let's be clear that I think Brown is an abomination to sports ownership. But my Dusty comment was alluding to what you said yourself: Seems only fair to ask that question. Just because I don't like him doesn't mean he hasn't had a semi successful career. He is much better than anyone they have had in the last 10 years or so that is for sure.
August 25, 201115 yr They just got lucky and everything came together at the right time a few different years. The NFL is built for your team to be good at some point every few years. You shouldn't go 10 years without making the playoffs. They always had a messed up scouting department and front office and that hasn't changed. The Reds have people that are proven (Walt) to have success in the MLB which they didn't in the past. The same thing could be said about the Reds than and just maybe they got luck and everything came together perfectly last year. I mean it is easy to make the statement the Reds are better off considering they are coming off a playoff appearance and the Bengals coming off a 4 and 12 season. After the 2009 season it would have been easy to say the Bengals. The Reds I believe finished below .500 and the Bengals just won the division, and did it with a top 5 defense. So would have been easy to look at and say the Bengals are finally getting it right and have built a defense up. Who knows what will happen with the Reds, they should have been better than what they were this year. They seem to have some young talent in place, just like the Bengals over the last 6 years. However no one knows how it will pan out. When it comes down to it both franchises over the last 20 years have been pretty darn bad. The Bengals would be an F, and the Reds barely above an F at a 60% D-. Only because out of their two playoff appearances they did win a playoff series. The Bengals lost both of their playoff games.
August 25, 201115 yr Maybe a little bit but that doesn't change the fact that they have people at the top that know what they are doing unlike the Bengals. This I agree with they do have better people at the top. However it ask about things over the last 20 years, not whose future might be better. Over the last 20 years the Reds have been as bad as the Bengals. Right now the future does look better for the Reds, but the same could have been said about the Bengals a few years ago. Hopefully things work out better for the Reds than the Bengals, it would be nice to have one consistent or close to consistent winner around here.

Not really they still have the same idiots running the show. They just got lucky and got a good QB for a while until he went downhill.
August 25, 201115 yr The is like saying the Reds are the tallest of the 2 midgets. They both have sucked for the most part. Hopefully the Reds have turned to corner somewhat.
August 25, 201115 yr Not really they still have the same idiots running the show. They just got lucky and got a good QB for a while until he went downhill. Lucky or good the future still did look bright for the Bengals then with having success and young talent. Also yes the Reds have a better front office, however if you say the Bengals got lucky to be good then so did maybe the Reds. Everything really did come together perfectly for the Reds last year to win the division. Gomes having a career year basically, Votto having an MVP season, Rolen was able to muster together one last final good offensive season, Bruce had his moment, and BP did too. Pitching did great and had people like Author Rhodes tearing it up at an old age, and catchers in Hernadez and Hanigan who combined for the best stats in baseball at catcher. Everything that could go right last year did, and it still took them playing in a weak division to win it. Maybe this year we are seeing the true talent of the team, and last year was just lucky. My point is if your going to call that luck, then basically have to say the samething about the Reds last year. The future does look better for the Reds, but as I said people said the samething about the Bengals a few years ago. If these young players end up not developing well at the Major League level, which could possibly happen. Then we might see the same thing happen to the Reds. I sure hope that doesn't happen though.

August 25, 201115 yr What about Lions and Tigers of Detroit? Not counting the wings... At least the Tigers have made the World Series. Kansas City's franchises have been pretty bad as well--at least in regards to postseason success.
