For an undisclosed draft pick. Drafted with the 49 pick in last years draft.

Zim might be good for him. I'm not expecting much out of him at this point. He has a long way to go.

Looks like he was slated to be the third-string safety for SF. Huge acquisition that should turn the tide for the Bengals this season . . .

^ Exactly why I like the move. Why not take a raw guy with upside when your entire team is filled with raw guys with upside like Dalton, Green, Shipley, Gresham, Andre Smith, etc.. If anything else he can learn to be good on special teams or something.

Wow, now we're assured of going to the playoffs. Sweet!

Baby steps.

At least the Bengals are making an attempt to get better at a weak (even by Bengals standards) position. He may provide a rockem-sockem moment or two, to momentarily dull the pain of the Bengals not only losing but committing mental errors good high school teams do not make - (false starts, 12 men in the huddle, blown special teams plays.)

Does sell them short. Super Bowl!!!

Seems like a typical "so-what" move for the Bengals. I'm so sick of these "project" pickups to build for a future that never seems to arrive with the Bengals. Doesn't Mikey have some $40M that he still has to spend? He isn't going to get rid of that money picking up free agents like Mays.

Would you rather have had them do nothing at all? At least they're not stupid enough to completely ignore their lack of quality safeties. Not that Mays is a quality safety but he's huge and he's fast. He has potential to turn into something.

He doesn't have to till 2013.

I'm assuming if he truly appeared to have all that much potential, he: 1) would not have been third string at SF and, 2) would not have been released by SF. I don't think Mays cures their glaring weakness at that position, but maybe he'll be a Hall-of-Famer one day.

And obviously won't do so until he's required by the league, thus pickups like Mays.

Exactly.
