Newport Central Catholic 2011/2012

Basketball season for 2011/2012 should provide another exciting year. What should we expect from Newport Central Catholic? Remember, please be constructive.

They have possibly the best guard in NKY returning along with sharp shooting Ryan. The X factor is Jake Schulte. He has a huge body and his skills have been developing over the past couple of years. The question is if he is ready to take that feature role as a sophomore. good luck to the Breds, it should be a great year for them!

No question IMO they have the best all around athlete in NKY. I heard they had a big freshman as well, like 6'5" or 6'6", possibly a Freppon. Any details on this kid?

Drew McDonald a freshman out of St. Joe, Cold Spring, whose mother is Christy Freppon, is a beast! He has really grown and filled out this summer.

 

He has the potential to be the best big man in Northern Kentucky down the road. I expect that he will move right to the varsity ranks and see no reason why he wouldn't receive quality playing time this year.

 

Not surprised that King Louie is sitting there quietly munching on his popcorn. :lol:

 

He is also a superior golfer. I've been encouraging him to pursue his career in golf, and certainly not risk a career ending injury playing basketball. Seems to be falling on deaf ears.

If the lad got his athletic genes from his mom, he is a fine athlete. Anyway, I certainly expected more to jump on the comment about the best athlete in NKY comment above, but I guess everyone is still hanging out in the football forum!

Wow! Thanks Mustang. Should be fun to watch for the next few years with him and the Schulte kid.

Ok, I will bite. Brady is a very gifted athlete. Starting QB, Point Guard and Shortstop. In this day and age, that is a remarkable feat especially at a school like NCC that has much athletic success. Just imagine if he would have focused on just one of those sports. Great kid, great family and I love watching him play (except against my Camels).

I believe Michael Bueter is a very important key to this team, as well as Nick Siebert, income Jr. class willl be a big contribution to the teams chemistry. Not to mention Collin Dupont off the bench. :clap:

In the discussion of NCC big men, I haven't heard Evan Morse's name come up.

 

He missed last season with a knee injury sustained by playing football.

Seibert will be the one to watch. He is built like his cousin Marky Krebs at about 6'5 160 and has really improved his game over the summer along with Beuter. I could see this starting lineup. Beuter 6' PG, Hightchew 6' 2G, Ryan 6'4 3spot, Seibert 6'5 4spot and Schulte 6'5 at the 5. Morse, Dupont, and possibly Devoto off the bench. These guys will have a lot of length and will need to play together if they want a chance. If it tirms into the Brady Hightchew show they may have their troubles. He is a fantastic player but he will need to get other guys involved if they want to get that rematch with Dixie in the tourney.

If the Seibert kid has improved that much and Morse is healthy I don't see a spot for the frosh Drew McDonald to get a lot of varsity minutes. Schulte is the real deal and Andy Miller, who played in every game, returns this year. Lots of big men with some experience. I think they will let Drew gain confidence at the frosh level and play a lot of JV to hone his skills. By the way King Louie, his dad was a pretty good athlete too.

McDonald will never see the frosh level, and will play significant minutes on the varsity level, especially after Christmas. You can mark it down.

Good for Drew, he is a great kid and a great athlete. I did not get to see him over the summer, but heard he sprouted up again. I would think his minutes may also come prior to Christmas while a couple of the Breds are working on bringing home another title on the gridiron? Sounds like the Breds will be deep and hopefully be able to give Dixie a run! Good luck to the Breds!
