Have heard that Bailey Menke WILL be suiting up this season and has rejoined the team. If indeed true, what does this do for Lady Royals in the upcoming season?

That's good to hear about Menke. Maybe Moore will as well.

Just checked with one of the players (my daughter), and Menke has returned. Another of my predicted starters, Taylor Allen is back after a about 2 years out. Sophomore Charnell (sp?) Brooks has returned after a year out. I don't see her as a varsity starter this year, could be, but she's the tallest girl and a big body. She'll contribute. At this point, the Moore girl is still out.

The girls have been working hard in conditioning (running and weights) and Coach Akin has the enthusiasm level up. They'll be better than last year.

Cats Pause had them slated as 10th in the pre season. Do you think with the return of these player's that they will be more of a middle of the pack team or where they are slated now?

You're entitled to your opinion, and you may end up being right on the money. You know more about the program than I do. But I would think the loss of Smith is really, really going to hurt this team. Smith is a real talent & knows how to score the ball. Will be hard to replace her, I would think.

Menke's return certainly bodes well for the Lady Royals. And I have heard that they played very well in the summer, so perhaps you're on to something.

This team will surprise folks, this will be a more team oriented bunch of kids, and played very well together this summer and the pre season workouts/weights and conditioning has been something I believe will go a long way towards this season. This will be a deep team, 3 starters return along with Morton who seen a great deal of varsity minutes last year. This years team will possibly be able to play any where from 8-10 kids a night as BB said above, Taylor Allen is back, Brooks returns, a transfer in Katie Hamm from St. Patrick and just recently Lydia Stutler. Menke will have a great senior season as will Moran who had a great summer. Butler is stronger and will look to have a great sophomore season and Bierley will be great defensively and has improved her offensive game. Moore is a definite no as she is bypassing her senior season. Absolutely the points lost from Smith is something that will be hard to replace immediately, but a more balanced scoring attack eventually as the season goes by will hopefully passify that loss. I have spoke to the players, the enthusiasm is definitely a high, the players have bought in to their new coach, and the chemistry sounds like it is so much better from speaking with the kids.

Very good info! Thanks & good luck to the Lady Royals. :thumb:

This is the is one of the two reasons I think they'll be better. The other reason is the strength and conditioning. Overall, they'll probably be in the best shape of any girls' team Mason has ever fielded. Stronger, faster, tougher. But, they still lack a true post player. The have a plenty of girls in the 5' 9" to 5' 10" range. I'm not saying unbelievably better, just better.

She's a good one, started on NewCath's freshman and jv team last year, until she injured her knee.

Menke is gone again. Butler has another knee injury, not sure how serious. The new coach made the mistake of keeping some of the old staff. I withdraw my "better" prediction. Judging from the talent level and lack of heigth, it'll be 3-4 more years before Mason's truly competitive.

What happened to Menke?

What do you mean about keep the old staff?? Isn't Coach Aiken calling the shots?

Changed her mind about playing. Not sure why.

She's not the only one who interacts with the kids. If you're too negative, you discourage kids and drive them away.

AMEN. You don't motivate kids by negativity. Positive reinforcement goes a long way and shows on the court.
